The Whitney M. Young Jr. School of Social Work Office of Practice Education and Practicum Activities had a dynamic first week!
We kicked off the week with our hybrid Practicum Instructor Orientation, welcoming 50+ practicum instructors and agency partners. The energy, engagement, and commitment in the room were amazing!
We know that we cannot do what we do without our incredible community partners and practicum instructors who open doors, share their expertise, provide meaningful learning opportunities, and invest in the professional development of the next generation of social workers.
The energy continued throughout the week! Not only did our practicum instructors show up, but our MSW students showed up ready to learn, engage, and prepare for the next step in their professional journey.
Our Foundation and Clinical MSW students participated in a series of intentional workshops designed to prepare them for practicum and help them become practice-ready social work interns.
We hosted a variety of workshops focused on:
Practicum expectations and professional readiness
Clinical skills and practice preparation
Mindfulness and managing stress
Professionalism and the NASW Code of Ethics
Diversity, cultural humility, and social work practice
Afrocentric perspectives in social work
Meaningful conversations with experienced social work professionals
This is what practice education is all about—creating intentional learning experiences that bridge the classroom and the practice while equipping students with the knowledge, skills, confidence and professional identity to serve their communities,
The students came with energy, enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to engage. The semester is off to an amazing start! We are practice-ready!
