Attn. GTAs: You are invited to join us for the second meeting of this year’s Pedagogy Reading Group tomorrow!
In case you’re new to the group, we meet monthly to discuss a series of common texts on writing pedagogy and to share our teaching and learning experiences with one another. It involves a little bit of homework but also the potentially big payoff of building community and becoming more confident, compassionate, and effective teachers. You’re all welcome to participate, and I hope to see you there!
Here are the details:
Logistics
We’ll meet for an hour once a month on Fridays (schedule attached). Some meetings will take place in person, in the 24th floor conference room. Others will be held on Webex to help accommodate as many schedules as possible. I’ll send monthy reminders with readings attached to help you get ready.
Our upcoming meeting will be on Webex at 11 am on October 24th. Here’s the link to attend:

Reading
The idea is to start with some classic works of composition and pedagogy theory and then move on to more contemporary texts about teaching that draw on this earlier scholarship. I’ve chosen some readings that I think work well together to get us started, but we’ll be approaching these meetings as a community of learners, which means that this reading schedule is open to modification based on the input of everyone who participates.
Most of this year’s texts are available via the GSU Library as ebooks, but you can access the designated chapters and excerpts from each text we’ll discuss here as well: Support for Pedagogical Innovation.
New GTAs are required to participate in two of these sessions, but we’ll be covering topics of interest even to experienced teachers. You don’t have to attend every meeting to be a part of the group, but I recommend attending as many as possible to get the full benefits of a scholarly and intellectual community.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to email me at [email protected]. Otherwise, check out John Warner’s More Than Words (short, selected chapters attached) and think about joining our first meeting tomorrow!
