The fifth edition of our annual Collegiate Bridge Tournament took place on Jan. 31-Feb. 1, 2026. It set yet a new record, with 26 teams from 7 different schools for a total of over 100 players taking part. In addition to Georgia Tech, teams from Amherst College, University of Chicago, Duke University, New York University, University of North Texas and Washington University in St. Louis entered the tournament.

After a suspenseful three-team final round, Georgia Tech Gold was declared the winner of the 2024 North American Collegiate Teams Championship, which was notable for setting a number of firsts. It had the largest number of competing teams (eighteen) since the new championship format was adopted in 2018. It was the first time that the final round was played as a three-team round-robin match and it is the first time in the recorded history of the Championship since 1987 that a team from the same school has won the title four times (including 2021, when the Collegiate Championship was played online together with the entire Summer NABC).

This year three teams from Georgia Tech were competing in the championship: GT Gold, GT White and GT Navy. In the first round, played as a swiss tournament, the number of competitors was reduced from 18 to 12. The second round consisted of six KO matches and the third of an additional three. In the final round, two three- team round-robin matches were played by the winners and losers of the third round, respectively.

GT Gold played against teams from the University of Chicago and the University of Waterloo in the final matches. At the end of this round, all three teams ended with exactly the same number of VPs. A first tie-breaker left the standings unchanged, with exactly one win and one loss for each team. After the second tie-breaker, the margin of victory, GT Gold and UChicago were still tied, because the victory margin in their respective wins was 11 IMPS for both teams. However GT Gold had defeated UChicago and was therefore declared the Championship winner.

GT White won the other three-way match and thus finished fourth overall. Two GT White players, Justin Shiao and Stefanie Wang, also finished second overall in the Collegiate Pairs Championship, which was played the following day.

FOX 5 Atlanta will air an interview with the GT Gold Team on Mon. Sept. 18th during their Good Day Atlanta news programming. We haven't been given a time yet, we'll post it here as soon as we find out.

𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗮 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽

After winning the Teams Championship, Georgia Tech players dominated the Pairs Championship as well. Bo Han (Bruce) Zhu and Vincent Zhu (no relation) came in first overall. This is an encore for Bo Han, who won the Pairs Championship last year playing with Richard Jeng, GT BSECON 2020. Additionally, two other Georgia Tech players, Weilong Shen and Alan Yu, came in second overall and first in the 99er strat. Taken altogether, these results make the 2023 Collegiate Bridge Bowl the most successful ever in the history of the Georgia Tech Bridge Club.

𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗮 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻

After a nail-biting second half, consisting mostly of push boards, GT Gold managed to overcome the score deficit of the first half to win the finals match against Carnegie Mellon University 70 to 59 IMPS. This is the second North American Collegiate Teams Championship title won by Georgia Tech in a face-to-face tournament. Georgia Tech had previously won the team championship in 2017 in Toronto and in 2021, when the tournament was played online.

Half way through the match (12 boards out of 24) CMU has a slight lead (44 to 40 IMPS) over GT Gold.

GT Gold defeated Washington U. in St. Louis in the quarter finals and UC Santa Barbara in the semifinals is now facing Carnegie Mellon University in the finals match. The match starts at 7:30 pm CDT and is being broadcast on Vugraph. More information to follow.

The quarter finals of the Collegiate Teams Championship have started. This is a KO stage in which eight teams face each other in four 24-board matches. GT Gold is playing against Washington U. in St. Louis while GT White is playing against U. Chicago. Keep checking for further updates.

The 2023 Collegiate Teams Championship started today at the Summer NABC in Chicago. Thirteen teams are competing and Georgia Tech is the only school fielding two teams, Georgia Tech Gold and Georgia Tech White. The qualification phase of the tournament took place today and Georgia Tech Gold came in first. Seven other teams, including Georgia Tech White, advanced to the KO phase, which will start at 10 am CDT tomorrow. We will post periodic updates during the course of the tournament.
