Auburn Ansc-SB22 is now in the record book. This year's theme for the program was 'networking'. I saw this all week long as students engaged with some of the nation's leaders in animal agriculture. Like all other Department of Animal Sciences Spring Break Study Travel programs during the past 14 years, students were provided career changing moments at almost every tour stop. Our host planted seeds as they delivered their message to the nations next animal agriculture leaders. This week has been learning and networking at its best. I am proud to be the department head of a department filled with faculty supportive of this activity. Travelers on SB22 were students representing 6 academic departments in the College of Agriculture, two faculty members (Dr. Huntington and Dr. Heaton) from animal sciences and my supportive wife Evelyn Greene. We are AUBURN TIGERS. War Eagle.

Crown Ranch hosted an amazing tour representing the cutting horse industry. Chad Bushaw and family have become great friends of the department, opening the doors of his ranch to many AU students over the years. Students watched cutting demonstrations, toured show horse facilities, and the new foals along with riding some world-class cutting horses.

Crown Ranch is a family -owned cutting horse operation in Weatherford, Texas. Chad Bushaw is the winner of all three NCHA Triple Crown Non-Pro events, including the 2012 NCHA Derby Non-Pro with Bet On A Cat; the 2008 NCHA Super Stakes Non-Pro on Cats Ruby; and the 2001 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro with Jerryoe

Friday's second stop was in Houston Oaks, TX, at Superior Livestock Auction headquarters. Joe Lichtie, Vice President of Superior Livestock Auction and Manager of Superior Productions, in Fort Worth delivered a comprehensive program on marketing cattle (and horses) through Superior auctions.

In 1987, Superior Livestock Auction introduced satellite video marketing to the nation's livestock industry and forever changed the way load-lots of cattle are marketed.

Superior Livestock Auction’s marketing service offers both buyers and sellers the opportunity to take advantage of “Value Added” programs, which will bring more dollars to their bottom line.

We started out Friday morning with visiting Purina-Land O Lakes Mill in Fort Worth, TX.
Purina is one of the world's leaders in manufacturing animal feeds. They have been in business since 1894, and over the years, their purpose has never changed.

Dr. Doug Hawkins, an animal nutritionist for Purina, shared his career message with the students, and plant manager Chad White arranged the tour of the largest and oldest plant in the nation.

This morning, we had a bus tour of Randall County Feedyard. We heard from Mr. Colby Davis (Dr. Huntington’s brother-in-law) and Mr. Boone Hill (Assistant Manager) about their daily operations. They discussed the management to include feeding, health, and welfare of over 80,000 head of cattle each day. Thank you Randall County Feedyard for hosting us this morning!

Students started out this nice, cool, crisp morning of spring break branding AU on Cadillacs at the famous landmark and historical Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo TX.

Cadillac Ranch was created in an old cow pasture by an art group from San Francisco known as the Ant Farm artists, made up of Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez, and Doug Michels. But, they had help from millionaire Stanley Marsh 3, an eccentric millionaire and Texas businessman who reveled in rattling the Amarillo population.
