Honors College student Luke Lipien is showing just how far curiosity and creativity can take you. While studying marine biology at Auburn University, Luke also wrote and published his debut young adult novel, Void Seeker a project that blends imagination, discipline and the same drive he brings to his research. The book is on sale now.
Void Seeker follows Michael Bren, a thirteen‑year‑old who can see into a shadow‑filled realm called the Void. Believing he’s the only one with this ability, Michael grows up isolated until he discovers others like him and must work with them to escape a dangerous facility. The story explores belonging, identity and the courage it takes to fight for the life you want.

Honors students in BIOL 1037 are learning that science is as much about curiosity as it is about answers.
In Dr. Djibo Zanzot’s Honors Organismal Biology course, students engage in creative, hands-on learning—from artistic projects to outdoor class sessions—that challenge them to think differently about the natural world. The course also serves as a testing ground for innovative teaching methods that can extend beyond the Honors classroom.
