Pi Kappa Phi’s 2nd Annual War of the Roses is finally here! In honor of this amazing week benefitting The Ability Experience, I will designate a disability of the day for every day this week. The disability I chose for Monday, April 20th is Muscular Dystrophy. MD is a group of diseases characterized by a depletion of muscle mass from mutations in genes that impede proteins’ ability to grow healthy muscle. Symptoms typically begin during childhood, but some symptoms hold off until later in life. The most common type of MD is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. About half of those who suffer from MD have this type. There is currently no cure for any type of Muscular Dystrophy, but medication does exist that slows the progression of the disease. Approximately 1 of every 5,600 to 7,700 American males from age 5 to age 24 suffer from some form of MD. If you would like to learn more about Muscular Dystrophy, donate, or find others ways to help, visit www.mda.org. If you would like to support locally, we will be out on the Haley Concourse today hosting our “Baskets for Abilities” event from 9 AM to 3 PM so come show us your basketball skills for a chance to win a $25 gift card to Kinnucan’s!
The first 25 Auburn students (excluding Pi Kappa Phi brothers) to share this post will be automatically entered in a raffle for a $25 Kinnucan’s gift card! I strongly encourage everyone to share this post to help raise awareness for those who suffer from Muscular Dystrophy. See you on the concourse!
