🏆 Celebrating Excellence in Civil Engineering! 🏆

Congratulations to Carolina Vellenich Triboni, an Auburn Civil & Environmental Engineering graduate student, on being selected as a recipient of the James & Sharon Weinel Fellowship from the Chi Epsilon Honor Society! 🎉

Carolina has made a lasting impact through initiatives such as E-Day, FE Review Sessions, and other outreach activities that support and strengthen our CEE community.

"I am deeply honored to have been selected as a recipient of the James & Sharon Weinel Fellowship from the Chi Epsilon Honor Society. Serving as an officer in our Chi Epsilon student chapter has been one of the most meaningful and rewarding experiences of my academic career. 🔶 Hands-on learning was on full display at the Summer Expo! 🔶

On July 22, the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering hosted the Summer Expo which featured a variety of research, teaching, and outreach demonstrations.

Auburn Civil and Environmental Engineering welcomed future engineers to the Harbert High Bay Instructional Area for an afternoon of interactive demonstrations, research showcases, and conversations with faculty, staff, and students. Tenth and eleventh grade high school students explored a variety of exhibits representing the many disciplines within CEE and learned firsthand how engineering concepts are applied to solve real-world challenges.

A big thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and expertise to help make the event a success. We loved sharing the exciting work happening across Auburn CEE and inspiring the next generation of engineers!

🎓 Faculty Reflections from ExCEEd 2026

This summer, Dr. Neha Sharma and Dr. Lynnae Stypulkowski participated in the ExCEEd, Teaching Workshop. ExCEEd, Excellence in Civil Engineering Education, is a nationally recognized program focused on excellence in engineering education.

For Dr. Sharma, the most impactful part of the experience was the people. She also valued the demonstration classes, practice teaching sessions, and mentorship from experienced faculty.

Dr. Stypulkowski attended ExCEEd from a different perspective, serving as an Assistant Mentor.

"It was awesome to go back as an Assistant Mentor and see ExCEEd from the other side. The amount of work and dedication that ASCE and the ExCEEd staff put into this is truly exceptional."

📚 Bringing New Ideas to the Classroom

Dr. Sharma plans to implement structured board notes, clearer lesson objectives, active learning opportunities, and more frequent checks for understanding. She also emphasized the importance of connecting lessons to real-world challenges to make learning more meaningful.

Even as an Assistant Mentor, Dr. Stypulkowski found herself learning alongside the participants.

"The participants on my team were super insightful and gave me a lot of ideas to bring back to the classroom!"

One quote from ExCEEd that resonated deeply with Dr. Sharma:
"Your heart is in the teaching."

Both faculty members returned to Auburn inspired, energized, and eager to apply new ideas that will enhance the learning experience for CEE students.
