This spring, AU Department of Art & Art History students and faculty unveiled a stunning 50-foot public artwork honoring the history, culture and future of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians (PCI).

Led by Professor Wendy DesChene, a Canadian Métis Nation person and longtime head of Auburn’s mural painting course, the project was built through close collaboration with PCI tribal leadership to ensure every detail authentically reflected the stories, traditions and symbols most meaningful to the tribe.

Made possible through AU Outreach and a partnership with the Caroline Marshall Draughon Center for the Arts & Humanities at Pebble Hill, this extraordinary project showcases the power of art to connect communities, preserve stories and create lasting impact.

As the United States marks its 250th anniversary, Auburn University History Department Assistant Professor Philip Baltuskonis is helping us rethink what we know about America’s fight for independence.

France, Spain and other global allies played a critical role in the Revolution’s success, stretching the conflict far beyond North America.

From naval battles in the Caribbean to military campaigns involving free people of color and Native American allies, Baltuskonis’ research offers an important reminder: history is often bigger and more connected than we realize.

Because of the generosity of the Auburn Family, Auburn University Anthropology Program alumna Manna Mathews was able to explore her passions, gain hands-on experience and discover a calling centered on helping others.

Manna built an interdisciplinary foundation for her future, earning minors in sociology, psychology and political science while deepening her understanding of people, perspectives and communities.

She turned that knowledge into action through internships with the Alabama Bureau of Pardons & Paroles and the U.S. Probation Office of the Southern District of Alabama, where she shadowed officers working directly with probationers and observed court testimony. She also conducted archaeological research at Auburn’s field school at Camp Watts in Notasulga.

Now, Manna is preparing for a career helping people rebuild their lives- proof that scholarship support empowers Auburn students to make a lasting difference.

HUGE congratulations to Elijah Gaddis, Hollifield Associate Professor of Southern History in the Auburn University History Department, on being selected for a prestigious faculty fellowship at Harvard University.

As one of just eight scholars invited to join the Warren Center Fellowship on Commemorative Acts, Gaddis will explore how people and communities remember history.

His research focuses on the Baker-Datcher family of Alabama, whose generations-long efforts to preserve their own history offer a powerful example of how communities tell stories that might otherwise be forgotten.

Robbie Reuse ’26 made the most of every opportunity during his time at Auburn — earning a degree in political science, a Certificate in National Security and Intelligence and a minor in psychology while getting involved in Pi Sigma Alpha, Auburn’s political science honor society.

Through Auburn University - Auburn Abroad's study abroad program in Brussels, Robbie explored global diplomacy firsthand, visiting NATO, the European Parliament and the The German Marshall Fund of the United States.

That experience helped open the door to Capitol Hill, where Robbie interned for U.S. Sen. and former Auburn football coach Senator Tommy Tuberville.

Today, Robbie is continuing his work in Washington, D.C., as a staff assistant for Congressman Randy Fine, with plans to one day bring those experiences back to Alabama through a career in defense and national security.

His story is proof that the path you start at Auburn can take you farther than you ever imagined.

For AU School of Communication and Journalism students Cailin Campbell, Gunner Norene and Beauman Ivester, learning extended far beyond campus this spring.

While working with Stay Plugged In, an esports recruiting platform connecting students with collegiate scholarship opportunities, the trio attended the NFL Draft, gaining firsthand experience in the fast-paced worlds of sports media, live events and professional communication.

We’d call that a pretty strong résumé builder!
