The Director of the East Alabama Inservice Center will serve as a principal investigator (PI) for the Alabama Math, Science and Technology Initiative (AMSTI), the Alabama Science in Motion (ASIM) program, and the Technology in Motion (TiM) program, the National Board Mentoring Program, the Alabama State Department of Education. This person will serve as the chief fiscal and administrative officer of the Center and be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Inservice Education Center through the supervision of personnel, budgeting and accounting, administration of programs and professional learning opportunities, evaluation of personnel and programs, and the formation of partnership and collaboration with region’s school districts (Alexander City, Auburn City, Barbour County, Bullock County, Chambers County, Elmore County, Eufaula City, Lanett City, Lee County, Macon County, Opelika City, Phenix City, Russell County, Tallassee City, and Tallapoosa County). The Director will forge relationships and build capacity with groups external and internal to Auburn University in order to construct mutually beneficial associations contributing to the work of the Center. The Director will oversee the creation, design, development, coordination, dissemination, and evaluation of new and innovative professional learning programs and services. He/She will assure that the organization has a long-term strategic plan which achieves its mission according to the Accountability Standards for Alabama’s Regional Inservice Centers in a consistent and timely manner. The Director will serve as a region representative on the Council of Alabama Regional Inservice Directors and as the Executive Secretary to the Governing Board for the Inservice Center.
Minimum Qualifications: Educational Specialist degree in an education related field with five-years experience teaching in public P-12 school is required at the time employment beings. Demonstrated experience in delivering professional development to P-12 teachers.
Desired Qualifications: A doctorate degree in an education related field with seven-years experience teaching in a public P-12 school in Alabama is preferred. Ability to coordinate the research, development, design, and delivery of effective professional learning opportunities for P-12 educators; and the ability to conduct research and assessments related to professional learning in a P-12 setting and the capability to actively seek and secure external funding to further the work of the Center. Strong interpersonal skills in synergizing with professionals internal and external to the university environment; with personnel at his/her level, as well as above and below; ability to be creative, innovative, flexible, communicative, and professional capacity to exercise sound judgement, act with integrity, and show initiative; proficient in collaborating and promote collaboration among staff in a variety of projects; and, finally, the ability to delegate and empower employees to manage their environment for effective results.

On Thursday, October 24 the Critical Studies Working Group will host Dr. Susana Muñoz, Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Higher Education Leadership at Colorado State University. Dr. Muñoz’s research focuses on the experiences of undocumented and DACA students in education. There will be several opportunities to engage with her, notably:

Featured Guest Lecture (one hour plus Q and A)

Dr. Muñoz’s talk is titled, “Complicating ‘Undocumented and Unafraid’ During Politically Turbulent Times in Higher Education.” In this lecture, Susana Muñoz will discuss findings from her book Identity, social activism, and the pursuit of higher education: The journey stories of undocumented and unafraid community activists, where 13 undocumented and unafraid activist detail how they grapple with their legal status as a salient identity. The event is open to everyone, and people should feel free to share the attached flier as widely as possible.

This series is funded by the Department of Educational Foundations, Leadership, and Technology.
