The College of Science and Mathematics would like to take a moment to congratulate Dr. Cliff Gardiner on his retirement this month. Dr. Gardiner has served Augusta University with distinction for 40+ years, 15 of which were at CSM. He began his time at CSM as the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and continued playing a key role as an advisor to the college's leadership afterwards. His expertise, leadership, and good nature have always been appreciated and will be missed.

Congratulations to Dr. Angela Spencer for being recognized as this year's Distinguished Alumna for the College of Science and Mathematics, and also to Dr. Scarlett Timmons-Spangler for being recognized as CSM's Outstanding Young Alumna! Augusta University honored them and alumni awardees from other colleges during Alumni Weekend, running from April 25-27, 2025.

Check out CSM's very own Dr. Guido Verbeck presenting his research in drug detection as a part of Georgia's Statewide Opioid Task Force last month. The task force, a combination of state and local leaders, law enforcement officials, AU academic leaders and other specialists, met at Augusta University to present their findings around the opioid crisis.

CSM's Physics Club put together an awesome eclipse watch event yesterday! Hundreds of people showed up, and the event got widespread local news coverage. Special shout out to our students for their interviews on air and for organizing the viewing alongside physics faculty members!

It’s not often that the sun, earth, and moon are all aligned at the same time. In fact, it won’t happen again in the U.S. for the next 20 years; however, Monday, April 8th was that lucky day, and many were ready to see it happen.
