Description:
SCHOOL NURSE - MAXWELL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Minimum Qualifications:
Has completed a formal education program in nursing.
Holds current state licensure, minimum of Licensed Practical Nurse.
Three (3) years of clinical practice preferred.
Has knowledge of community health agencies.
Works under the direction of school administration. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, within the objectives, standards, and policies of the McDuffie County School District and within the parameters of his or her preparation. Cooperates with the administration, faculty, members of the nursing staff, and other interagency health organizations.

Reports to: Principal
Responsibilities:
1. Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and
evaluation of nursing care.
2. Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of students based on the application of scientific principles.
3. Participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information,
and ideas among team members.
4. Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance
with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a
licensed nurse.
5. Communicates with the supervisor regarding patients' physical condition, as needed.
6. Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
7. Serves on appropriate committees within the school or system.
8. Provides for professional nursing care of students and staff.
9. Makes appropriate referrals, conducts health evaluations and
responds to requests to make early detection of physical problems.
10. Communicates to students and staff methods of disease
prevention.
11. Assists in promoting programs on health education and
immunization.
12. Maintains current, complete and accurate clinical records.
13. Coordinates vision, hearing, dental and scoliosis screening and
health assessment.
14. Provides emergency aid to students and school staff.
15. Assists teachers in instructing students in health and nutrition education.
16. Performs related duties as required.
Terms of Employment: 184 days
Salary:
In accordance with the salary schedule approved by the McDuffie County Board of Education.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the McDuffie County Board of Education.
