On days like today the rain is the only thing you think about. On the one hand most criminals don't want to go out in this either. But on the other hand, it can severely impact your situational awareness and readiness.

Likely your head is dug down deep in your coat, you're looking down so you don't get rain in your face, your hands are in your pockets to stay warm. You're not looking up, you aren't ready to defend yourself.

You meander from awning to awning to stay out of the rain as much as possible, not thinking about the possibility there might be someone around that sharp corner.

Because most people don't want to be out in this there likely aren't nearly as many witnesses around either if something happens to you.

The pouring rain masks light footfalls behind you.

Now our company is not about trying to make everyone beat their chest and think they are a warrior and always need to be ready. Where these pictures were taken just happens to be an area frequented by abusers of illicit substances, many which have used them to the point it could be argued their sanity is permanently gone. There are constant disagreements between homeless people here and between the different personalities of the mentally ill. So this is one of those areas where despite the rain it is important to keep your head up, your hands ready, check your corners and take them wide.

Another thing you can do is if you're wearing a jacket with sealable pockets seal your valuables up so they aren't easy to grab or if you get pushed down so your expensive phone or other valuable doesn't go skittering out easy for the assailant to grab. Some people like to carry their keys as a possible defensive tool. Our preference is to keep them sealed up so they can't be stolen and remove them from the pocket at the right distance so you can apply them directly to the vehicle in a smooth manner rather than having to stop and dig through your pockets.

University students attending programs related to the security and investigative fields can gain numerous benefits from joining professional associations. Many of these organizations want to give back to the future and budding practitioners by offering reduced membership rates. Some colleges may, in turn, provide tuition discounts for being members of certain organizations.

Joining a security industry association can be inexpensive and have a large return on investment for college students.

December 27th, 2023 marks 44 years since the assassination of Afghan President Hafizullah Amin. Assassins assaulted his heavily fortified palace, overcoming tank battalions, anti-aircraft units, and the Presidential Guard to reach their target in 43 minutes. This study analyzes the plan and how the assassins undermined the executive protection detail and regional support forces that might respond to the attack, sabotaging weapons and equipment prior to the assault.

In 1979, the President of Afghanistan, Hafizullah Amin highlights the importance of accurate protective intelligence for EP professionals.

The people of every religion have the right to feel safe at their places of worship here in the United States. Sadly, today members of our company have had to deal with the potential for members of Middle Eastern religions to be targeted based on conspiracies. Jew, Gentile, Muslim, Wiccan, Hindu, whatever faith you aspire to, will be protected by our agents without discrimination.

Deep fake technology has the ability to ruin careers, lives, and cause massive upset to the community. It greatly erodes public confidence in what they see the same way Photoshop and earlier picture editing content did when in their day. Some of these videos are very convincing and will likely only get better with time.

This is absolutely terrible advice. Assaulting someone because you think they are creepy does not fall within the law. Remember there are many people who's "self-defense" advice will land you in prison with a felony record and likely a civil suit to follow.

Here is a great article written by Greg Ellifritz that covers necessary parameters to use force against someone. Nowhere does it say, "If someone seems creepy you are cleared start bashing them in the face with canned goods."

If we work hard in the beginning of an operation then it's usually smooth sailing after that.

- As the team came in they all went through site familiarization, mountain and night driving.

- Today we are reconfiguring our trucks. Vehicle manufacturers don't seem to think about how difficult something is. In trucks the toolkits are often difficult to get to and release as well as the spare tires. It just unnecessarily raises blood pressure when you're already having a bad time. We are pulling out our spare tires from the well underneath and putting them in the beds for quick access. It's pretty much a two person job otherwise because you need one person to shine a light in the hole to make sure the rod connects to the crank. The tools are being pulled from their designed difficult to fight with spots and being put inside the storage area under the backseats where they are still safe from becoming missiles in a wreck or hard stop while also being accessible from both sides or the front and rapidly deployable. We are also adding wood blocks large enough to be a stable platform to put the jacks on to save our arms a bit of work.

- Next we are going through a tire change refresher with some best lessons learned for safety such as using the old tire as a wedge in case a jack fails. Little things like that can be the difference between a broken nose and a closed casket when Mother Mayhem shows up with a free helping of bad luck.

It's always a great day when Risk Mitigation agents are working together. Yesterday after working a post for six hours another agent drove six hours picking up two more agents from a distant airport because it saved our client a lot of money to fly them there and we try very hard to treat our clients' money like our own, which means if we can do something fiscally conservative, we do. Because the agents will be operating in rough mountainous terrain the new arrivals conducted driver safety training, night driving, route familiarization, and received a site briefing by the agent already on site which had over the last several weeks compiled a detailed advance and orientation briefing. It was a very long day for our agents who were very delighted to get to their beds by the end of it once they were all set for work the next day.
