This week marks 40 years since IMSA’s charter class stepped onto campus and began an extraordinary experiment that would grow into the IMSA we know today. Back then, the “Old” Caf was just the Caf, the TV Pit was for watching TV, and everyone called the Main Building home.

To those first students, parents, faculty, and staff who took the leap, embraced the adventure, and helped build IMSA from the ground up, thank you! We wouldn’t be here 40 years later without you.

Here’s to those early years, orange carpet and all!

Join us Friday, Oct. 9, at Drury Lane Theatre for An Evening with IMSA, a special celebration of 40 years of innovation, alumni impact and the future of the Academy.

Hear remarks from Founding President Dr. Stephanie Pace Marshall, who will reflect on the extraordinary experiment that became IMSA, along with remarks from current President Dr. Evan Glazer on IMSA’s future.

The evening will also recognize IMSA Alumni Award recipients and celebrate the many ways Titans have made an impact in their professions, communities and beyond.

Are you a 9th grader who loves STEM?

Experience STEM in a new way through IMSA’s PROMISE Program. Students participate in hands-on courses, collaborative learning and engaging academic experiences alongside IMSA faculty, staff and student mentors.

Open to all Illinois students, the program supports culturally, linguistically and economically diverse students, with a focus on expanding access to STEM opportunities for students across the state.

As we celebrated IMSA’s 40th Convocation, we honored four decades of curiosity, discovery and community. 🔔

This year’s ceremony featured David Kung ’89, a member of IMSA’s Charter Class. He discussed his journey from an "IMSA OG" to a career at the intersection of technology, innovation, design and marketing, inspiring students to forge their own paths.

As tradition holds, the ringing of the bell marked the official start of another academic year. We’re grateful to our esteemed guests and IMSA family members who joined us for this special celebration. Here’s to 40 years of igniting and nurturing creative, ethical, scientific minds and to the next chapter of the IMSA story!

As we celebrate 40 years of impact, we're launching our $140 million vision to transform the student experience through new residence halls and a reimagined student center.

Thanks to a historic $125 million investment from the State of Illinois, as well as the generosity of private donors, we're well on our way! Now, through the "Where Curiosity Lives Campaign," we're inviting our community to help us close the final $6 million needed to bring a new residential experience to life for our students.

Together, we're building the next 40 years of connection, curiosity and care.
