A new targeted treatment for advanced pancreatic cancer is making headlines after receiving FDA approval. 💊 Called daraxonrasib, the drug nearly doubled overall survival time compared with standard chemotherapy in its Phase 3 clinical trial.

Among the investigators studying the treatment was physician Wells Messersmith, MD, with CU Anschutz also serving as a trial site.

When Meghan Perea began struggling to catch her breath during everyday activities, doctors eventually discovered scar tissue had narrowed her airway to the size of a pencil. After being referred to , surgery helped her breathe normally again within days.

Meghan has idiopathic subglottic stenosis, a rare disease with no known cause in which scar tissue narrows the airway. The condition can be difficult to diagnose, and the scar tissue typically grows back after treatment.

Few physicians specialize in treating the disease. In Colorado, about 10 doctors provide treatment, including four at CU Anschutz. Now, CU Anschutz is one of 10 sites nationwide participating in the first placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial studying whether in-office steroid injections can help patients go longer between surgeries. This week, hosted Colorado Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera along with clinicians, researchers, state agencies, patients and community organizations for a statewide conversation focused on advancing our understanding of Long COVID and identifying a path forward.

With multiple clinical trials underway at CU Anschutz, our researchers are working to turn what we’re learning about Long COVID into better treatments and support for patients.

Could deep brain stimulation offer another option for people with schizophrenia when medications aren’t enough? 🧠 Researchers at have received conditional FDA approval for an early feasibility study exploring deep brain stimulation, or DBS, for treatment-resistant schizophrenia.

DBS is already used to treat neurological conditions including Parkinson’s disease and essential tremor, but its use for schizophrenia remains experimental. The study would help researchers build evidence needed to better understand its potential safety and effectiveness.
