This past weekend, Moody College of Communication students crossed the graduation stage, turning the page on their undergraduate journey at the University of Texas at Austin and stepping into the next chapter of their story.

"Today, you are graduating with a four-year degree from one of the best public universities in the country," Interim Dean of the Moody College of Communication Anita Vangelisti emphasized. "No matter your desired career path after graduation, the world needs strong communicators... As you begin writing your next chapters, I hope you never forget that you have a community like no other here at Moody College."

Horns up! We are proud to celebrate Professor Emeritus Dr. Richard Cherwitz, recipient of the 2026 Laurence H. Tribe Distinguished Alumni Award from the National Debate Tournament Board of Trustees.

The Tribe award recognizes a National Debate Tournament alumnus who has used their debate training to make significant contributions to their profession, to society, or to humanity over the course of their career.

A former University of Iowa debater, Dr. Cherwitz has spent decades advancing scholarship, engaging the public, and creating the Intellectual Entrepreneurship Consortium, shaping thousands of students and strengthening the role of debate in developing future leaders. Congratulations and hook ‘em! 🤘

Congratulations to Communication Studies-UT Austin Texas Speech on securing their fifth consecutive win at the American Forensic Association National Speech Tournament (AFA NST) Team Sweepstakes! With this incredible milestone, they stand as the second most successful program in the tournament's 47-year history.

The team was recognized with a Tower Lighting on April 28, honoring students who have won significant awards, honors and championships during the past year.

"It reflects not just on the hard work of this year's team, but also the legacy of the program and the support of our incredible Texas Speech alumni and Moody College."
