First and foremost, we hope you are safe. We care deeply about the well-being of our students, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends.
While the decision has been made to cancel Homecoming next week, we are pleased that some of the planned activities will be re-scheduled; stay tuned for an announcement of new dates later this spring.

This past year several of your fellow alumni partnered with us to bring you a new virtual program, the Hilltop Learning Series. Participants engaged in fun activities like painting a sunset cactus or cooked a favorite Thanksgiving dessert. This month, we are thrilled to bring you a special edition of the Hilltop Learning Series for Homecoming 2021: Mental Health, Meaning-Making & Life After 2020.

Our lives are shaped by the stories we tell ourselves. Looking back at 2020, these stories may have been shaped by fear or uncertainty. This talk will explore meaning-making to inspire change.

Our speakers Claudine Lucena MAC ’17, LMFT, LPC, and Paola Ortiz ’10, MAC ’18, LMFT Associate, will provide resources for mental health wellness and how to get started with seeking out a mental health provider.

In theory, running sounds like an easy concept – just grab some tennis shoes and go! But just like learning a new language, starting any new hobby from scratch can be super intimidating.
Homecoming 2021 is right around the corner and we're kicking off the week with a virtual 5K. Below are some training tips from our partners in Campus Recreation & Wellness to help you get started.

1. Set a Goal For Yourself: Setting a goal will keep you focused and motivated as you train for your 5K.

2. Follow a Training Plan: When choosing a training plan consider your overall schedule and current level of fitness.

3. Find a Training Partner: Share your goal and training plan with others. You may even connect with alumni in your area who are also training for the virtual 5K!

4. Map Out a Route for Race Day: The best part of a virtual race is that you get to choose your favorite route to complete the 5K! Explore your neighborhood, a local trail, or a nearby school with a track for the perfect route.

5. Create a 5K Playlist: Keep yourself occupied by creating a playlist of your favorite songs! Additionally, training for the 5K is a great time to try out different Podcasts or Audiobooks.
