Horns up for an engineering trailblazer to women in engineering 🤘

Leah Moncure (B.S. CAEE 1937) was honored by the City of Bastrop Tx on Jan. 13 with a Historical Marker Dedication. In 1938, she made history by becoming the first woman in Texas to earn a professional engineering license. She was the state’s only female professional engineer for almost 15 years.

“At The University of Texas at Austin, we have a saying: What starts here changes the world. And I’m happy to report that what Leah Moncure started has changed the world. We currently have a thousand undergraduate students in our department and half of them are women. I’m looking forward to Leah’s legacy continuing on and helping make engineering education and engineering practice inclusive for everyone.” — Department Chair Robert Gilbert, Fariborz Maseeh Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering
