Founder Fest a SXSW-inspired event for students, alumni, faculty/staff, and the Austin startup community. This year’s fest includes musical performances by Stockz and Tigers Eye, a student athlete NIL panel discussion with D1 Approved, financial literacy activations with CASH prizes, and a keynote with founder, Ben Kurland.

Keynote speaker, Ben Kurland, is Senior Director of Strategy and Growth at Experian Consumer Services, where his role includes finding startups to strategically partner with, invest in, and acquire. He was a Co-Founder of BillFixers, a fintech startup that helped people negotiate bills and subscriptions, which was acquired by Experian in 2022 and has saved consumers more than $40M.

The Mom Test is a powerful tool for entrepreneurs and innovators to validate their problem-space without falling into the trap of biased feedback. By asking the right questions, founders can uncover genuine insights from potential customers and avoid the risk of building products based on false assumptions. It's about moving beyond compliments and digging into the problems, needs, and behaviors that motivate customers.

At LaunchPad, we teach this skill in the IDEATION phase of the innovation journey. We encourage founders to master this skill early to test assumptions, refine their solutions, and accelerate growth. Thoughtful, honest conversations are the foundation of successful innovation.

Starting this semester, our StartUP Grant awardees have gained exclusive access to monthly specialized workshops tailored to their chosen topics! Let's revisit the highlights of our inaugural workshop.
