Jazmine Gurrola ’26 has always loved baseball, and she’s tailored her APU experience as an applied math major with a concentration in computer science to prepare her for a job with Major League Baseball (MLB). From working with professors on research projects to attending conferences across the country, Jazmine feels prepared to graduate in December and start her master’s degree. Her goal is to become a sports analyst, specifically working with MLB teams on player development.

“I was in the MLB sponsorship program for the SABR (Society for American Baseball Research) conference, so I was able to spend a few extra days in Arizona meeting with 14 teams’ staff members,” Jazmine said. “I learned about the different job opportunities, expectations for applicants, how I should pursue my master’s degree, and how to continue gaining experience in the field.”

Thousands of students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members gathered to celebrate a historic new chapter for APU at the official re-opening of the renovated Cougar Stadium, our first football game on campus in more than 15 years!

The celebration kicked off with a tailgate catered by The Habit Burger & Grill, followed by an inspiring ribbon-cutting ceremony with speeches from President Adam J. Morris, Athletic Director Gary Pine, and Vice President for Student Belonging Keith Hall.

While our football team faced last year’s conference champions, Chapman University, in a hard-fought 23-3 matchup during our comeback season, our Cougar pride was on full display all night long. From the brand-new FieldTurf to the stunning video scoreboard, these upgrades mark the exciting beginning of a bold new era for Cougar Athletics.

Service in action: Last weekend, our APU Community Garden group teamed up with Azusa High School students down at the Jubilee Community Garden. Together, they potted 124 native plant seedlings to share across the city while teaching each other a few horticultural skills along the way. We love seeing our students serve and connect right here in our own backyard. 🌿

Experiencing loss at a young age introduced Xhymena De La Fuente, PsyD ’31, to the power of compassionate counseling, lighting a fire in her to expand mental health support in lower-income communities. Today in APU’s Doctor of Clinical Psychology program, she is learning to weave faith, cultural integration, and care into a tool for healing.

“There's such a sacredness to sitting with people in the middle of their vulnerability,” Xhymena said. “He knows we're together at this moment for a reason, and I hope that I can be the support that someone needs, even if it's just lending an ear.”
