Walter W. Stiern Library at CSUB

Walter W. Stiern Library at CSUB Through its programs and services, our mission is to provide access to information. The Walter W. The Dean of Libraries oversees all operations and services.

Stiern Library opened in 1994 and is the largest building on the California State University, Bakersfield campus. The 150,000 square-foot building houses nearly half a million volumes and provides electronic access to more than 30,000 periodical titles via its hundreds of computer terminals. The Library is managed and operated by 27 staff members and faculty librarians. The Library also maintains a branch library at the CSUB Antelope Valley campus in Lancaster.

📚️ All are welcome to join us virtually for the 2026 CSU Libraries Conference!

This year’s theme, Building Community, brings together library faculty, staff, and colleagues from across the CSU system for a day of sharing ideas, connecting with one another, and highlighting the incredible work happening across our campuses.

Sessions will cover topics including AI and emerging technologies, makerspaces, archives and preservation, outreach and student success, collaborative projects, and more — with presentations, panels, lightning talks, workshops, and poster sessions offered throughout the day.

We hope you’ll join us online and be part of the conversation! Be sure to register by 5/29.
