In response to the changing demographics of the surrounding community, the college reflects the vibrant cultural diversity that is increasing throughout California. While Bakersfield Coll

ege has a long and rich history of excellence in serving a large and diverse student body, continuing to meet the educational needs of our rapidly increasing minority community presents a significant challenge in the face of rapidly increasing fixed costs. Bakersfield College’s student body is increasingly low-income, first-generation college-going, minority and academically underprepared. In response to this challenge, faculty, staff, administration and students have cooperated to leverage alternative sources of funding, such as Hispanic Serving Institution federal grants, to support innovative educational programming and integrated student learning opportunities.

Kern County is one of the top agricultural producers in the United States, and BC’s Ag program has been preparing students for careers in this industry for over a century. This facility is built to match that legacy.

Dr. Jessica Wojtysiak isn’t new around here. She’s been a professor, a dean, an associate VP, and our interim VP of Instruction. Today, we make it official: Dr. Wojtysiak is BC’s permanent Vice President of Instruction.
 
A Cornell grad with a doctorate in Educational Leadership from CSUB, Dr. Wojtysiak has spent her career expanding what’s possible for Kern County students…from rural access initiatives in Delano, Arvin, Wasco, Shafter, and BC Southwest, to baccalaureate degrees and brand-new medical school pathways right here at BC.
 
She already knows our students. She already lives out our mission. And she’s ready to lead. 🎓

She’s been showing up for Renegades since the day she arrived on campus as interim…and now it’s official. We are proud to announce that Dr. Stacy Pfluger has been named the permanent President of Bakersfield College. 🎓🔴

Dr. Pfluger was raised in a farming and ranching community in Central Texas. She holds a Doctor of Education from Texas Tech University and a Master of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Notre Dame. She has dedicated her professional life to student success and opportunity, and we know that Bakersfield College’s future is bright under her leadership.
