Every fall, the University of Maryland, Baltimore commemorates our rich history and celebrates the future we’re building together during Founders Week, which this year runs Oct. 16-19. We are thrilled to celebrate the 2023 Public Servant of the Year, Shantay McKinily! Shantay has been directing the Positive Schools Center for 6 years now and we are so proud!

The director of the School of Social Work’s Positive Schools Center endeavors to change school climates and support families so students can thrive.

This month, we are featuring the impact of Changemakers within SWCOS for Giving Tuesday. Today, we highlight the work of former Promise Heights intern, Owyn Otero. Owyn is an Advanced Macro-Clinical student at the University of Maryland, School of Social Work. Having the opportunity to incorporate new knowledge from UMSSW and field experiences at Promise Heights with lived experience is the most impactful thing for Owyn, as well as seeing the change the students deserved within their school setting.
