Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends of Hopkins Hillel,
As Passover approaches, we are once again called to gather around our Seder tables and retell the story that has shaped our people for generations, the journey from slavery to freedom, from uncertainty to hope. It is a story not only of where we have been, but of who we are: a resilient people, rooted in tradition, sustained by community, and committed to carrying our story forward.
This year, that story feels especially present.
Across Israel and around the world, we are reminded that the Jewish journey has never been simple. For thousands of years, there have been those who have been trying to erase our presence and to sever our connection to our homeland. And yet, we are still here. We are still telling our story. We are still building, celebrating, and choosing life. Just as our ancestors found their way out of Egypt, generation after generation has found the strength to move forward with courage, faith, and an unbreakable sense of peoplehood.
At Hopkins Hillel, we see that same spirit every single day.
Our students are building vibrant Jewish community on campus through daily learning, meaningful Shabbat experiences, dynamic Israel engagement, and holiday celebrations that bring tradition to life in personal and powerful ways. During Passover, the Smokler Center becomes a true home away from home. Students will gather for meals, help to lead Seders for their peers, and create spaces filled with warmth, belonging, and Jewish pride.
But we cannot do this alone.
Half our funding depends on donors like you who believe in the importance of strong Jewish campus life, especially in moments like these.
This Passover, we ask you to partner with us in ensuring that every Jewish student at Johns Hopkins has a place at the table.
Your support makes it possible to:
- Provide Passover meals and Seders for students across campus, ensuring no one is left out
- Sustain and grow our free Shabbat dinner program, a cornerstone of Jewish life at Hopkins
- Strengthen our programming, student outreach, and Israel engagement during a critical time for Jewish identity and connection.
When you give to Hopkins Hillel, you are doing more than supporting a meal or a program, you are investing in the next generation of Jewish leaders. You are helping students live their Judaism proudly, build lasting community, and carry forward a story that has endured against all odds.
As we retell the story of the Exodus this year, may we also take pride in the story still unfolding, one of resilience, renewal, and hope.
We wish you and your loved ones a meaningful and joyous Passover.
With gratitude,
Monica Davis
