We’re now on Day Three of Hillel Global Giving Week, and today we’re proud to spotlight one of the cornerstone programs at Hopkins Hillel: OU-JLIC.

OU-JLIC (the Orthodox Union’s Jewish Learning Initiative on Campus) is at the heart of Orthodox life at Johns Hopkins. Through our partnership with the Orthodox Union, we are fortunate to have Rabbi Moshe and Saara Moskowitz living within our campus community, creating a true “home away from home” for our students.

The Moskowitzes bring Jewish life to campus in meaningful and accessible ways: engaging lunch-and-learns (often paired with Rabbi Moshe’s signature BBQ), and Thursday night Mishmar learning and scholar-in-residence programs, complete with Rabbi Moshe’s famous cholent. They anchor the week with Shabbat day Torah learning and warmly welcome students into their home to close out Shabbat with Seudah Shlish*t. Beyond programming, they provide invaluable mentorship and pastoral support, building lasting relationships with our students.

As an OU-JLIC campus, Hopkins Hillel is responsible for securing the funding that makes this initiative possible. Your generosity ensures we can continue to provide these essential Jewish experiences for our students.

Please consider making a gift today. Every dollar earmarked for OU-JLIC at Hopkins goes directly toward ensuring our students have access to Torah learning, Shabbat, and chagim, pastoral support, and a thriving Jewish community week in and week out. As alumni and friends who have seen the impact of JLIC firsthand, we know how much it matters. Let’s keep that impact going for this generation of Hopkins students and the next.

As we kick off Day 2 of Hillel Global Giving Week, we are proud to shine a spotlight on one of the most powerful and inspiring parts of our community—our Hopkins Hillel alumni.

From campus leaders to global changemakers, our alumni embody the values, connections, and Jewish pride that define Hopkins Hillel. They carry forward the experiences, friendships, and leadership skills they cultivated here into every corner of the world, strengthening Jewish communities, advancing meaningful careers, and making a lasting impact.

Today, we celebrate their journeys and the role Hopkins Hillel has played in shaping them. Whether it was Shabbat dinners, leadership roles, Israel experiences, or simply finding a sense of belonging, Hillel has been a foundation for so many.

To our incredible alumni: we invite you to pay it forward. Your gift during Global Giving Week is more than a donation, it is an investment in the next generation of Jewish leaders. By giving back, you ensure that today’s students have access to the same transformative experiences, mentorship, and community that helped shape your journey.

Your support ensures that today’s students have the same opportunities to grow, lead, and connect as the alumni we celebrate today. Every gift helps us:
Foster vibrant Jewish life on campus
Support student leadership and innovation
Create meaningful Jewish experiences that last a lifetime

Together, we are building a legacy—one student, one alum, one story at a time.

Thank you for being part of our community and for investing in the future of Jewish life at Hopkins.

Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends of Hopkins Hillel,

As Passover approaches, we are once again called to gather around our Seder tables and retell the story that has shaped our people for generations, the journey from slavery to freedom, from uncertainty to hope. It is a story not only of where we have been, but of who we are: a resilient people, rooted in tradition, sustained by community, and committed to carrying our story forward.

This year, that story feels especially present.

Across Israel and around the world, we are reminded that the Jewish journey has never been simple. For thousands of years, there have been those who have been trying to erase our presence and to sever our connection to our homeland. And yet, we are still here. We are still telling our story. We are still building, celebrating, and choosing life. Just as our ancestors found their way out of Egypt, generation after generation has found the strength to move forward with courage, faith, and an unbreakable sense of peoplehood.

At Hopkins Hillel, we see that same spirit every single day.

Our students are building vibrant Jewish community on campus through daily learning, meaningful Shabbat experiences, dynamic Israel engagement, and holiday celebrations that bring tradition to life in personal and powerful ways. During Passover, the Smokler Center becomes a true home away from home. Students will gather for meals, help to lead Seders for their peers, and create spaces filled with warmth, belonging, and Jewish pride.

But we cannot do this alone.

Half our funding depends on donors like you who believe in the importance of strong Jewish campus life, especially in moments like these.

This Passover, we ask you to partner with us in ensuring that every Jewish student at Johns Hopkins has a place at the table.

Your support makes it possible to:

- Provide Passover meals and Seders for students across campus, ensuring no one is left out
- Sustain and grow our free Shabbat dinner program, a cornerstone of Jewish life at Hopkins
- Strengthen our programming, student outreach, and Israel engagement during a critical time for Jewish identity and connection.

When you give to Hopkins Hillel, you are doing more than supporting a meal or a program, you are investing in the next generation of Jewish leaders. You are helping students live their Judaism proudly, build lasting community, and carry forward a story that has endured against all odds.

As we retell the story of the Exodus this year, may we also take pride in the story still unfolding, one of resilience, renewal, and hope.

We wish you and your loved ones a meaningful and joyous Passover.

With gratitude,

Monica Davis

As 2025 comes to a close, we reflect on what Hopkins Hillel means to Jewish students at Johns Hopkins. Every day, our Hillel provides a home where students find joy, belonging, and strength in their Jewish identity, made possible because of supporters like you.

Whether it’s a lively Shabbat dinner filled with laughter and song, a meaningful one-on-one conversation with a student seeking connection, or programs that help students explore Israel and Jewish history, your generosity brings these moments to life.

The support of alumni, parents, and friends ensures that Jewish life continues to thrive on campus. Before December 31, we hope you will consider making a special year-end gift to help ensure every Jewish student at Hopkins has a place to call home. By renewing your support or first time donor, before January 1, you enable Hopkins Hillel to open its doors wider and welcome even more students in the year ahead. Our students bring so much light to campus each week, and we are excited for all that’s to come in the New Year.

On behalf of the entire staff at Hopkins Hillel we wish you and your family a New Year filled with peace and joy!
