Celebrating Suliyat Adewuyi, a Best Friend of McNair, on her first co-authored publication! Suliyat is a Public Health major graduating in Dec 2024 who has been a Best Friend of the McNair community since Fall 2023. She’s taken on leadership roles like Torch Committee Member and 2024 Conference Ambassador, always shining brightly. 🌟

Special thanks to Dr. Sameera Nayak, first author and 2024 McNair Mentor of the Year, for her outstanding support of our students.

Suliyat reflects: “I learned how to make smart goals and not suffer in silence. I love how we talked about asking for help whenever we need it and not feel like a burden.”

Congratulations to Professor Birger for being named a 2024-25 Learning Analytics Fellow for her proposal, "Leveraging Curricular Analytics to Enhance Student Success in Public Health Courses."

Building on her research from the Eighth Annual Provost's Teaching and Learning Symposium, Professor Birger’s innovative project focuses on refining the curriculum for PBHL 100, 300, and 420. By utilizing UMBC's Curricular Analytics, she aims to improve course sequencing, learning outcomes, and active learning strategies to better prepare students for careers or graduate education.

We’re excited to see how this work will shape the future of Public Health education at UMBC
