Lees-McRae College Outdoor Recreation Management

Lees-McRae College Outdoor Recreation Management Outdoor Recreation Management is designed for students with a career interest in outdoor education, environmental education, and experiential education.

The Outdoor Recreation program at Lees-McRae College is the nation’s only outdoor recreation management program located within a School of Business and one of a handful of programs at an institution emphasizing a liberal arts education. Starting in your first few semesters, you will be immersed in outdoor recreation and business fundamental courses including: Outdoor Leadership, Outdoor Living Ski

lls, Teaching and Facilitation, Business Administration, and Principles of Management. Your upper level courses will consist of: Outdoor Recreation Administration, Risk Management, Contemporary Issues in Outdoor Recreation, and Organizational Behavior. As part of your liberal arts education you’ll have the opportunity to take a variety of courses specific to your outdoor interests. These courses include: Environmental Ethics, Wilderness Literature, and History of Wilderness and the American Mind. The program offers a wide range of experiential, hands-on courses that take you outside of a traditional classroom. These courses include: Wilderness First Responder, Internship, Senior Research, Hiking & Backpacking, Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing, Kayaking & Canoeing and more. Pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

FREE educational event 5/3 at Lees-McRae College!
As a part of Lees-McRae College's Wildlife Biology and Outdoor Recreation Management programs, we are hosting a student-led 'Birders and Botanists for a Day' event on campus on Sunday, May 3rd, from 12:30 PM until 4:00 PM.
This is a FREE event that will be educational and fun! Students will get the opportunity to learn about native plants, bird ID, meet educational ambassador animals from the May Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, and help build a pollinator garden!
This event is free of charge and open to any Avery and Watauga County kids between the ages of 8 and 12. Kids are asked to bring their own lunch, water bottle, and closed-toed shoes. Snacks and additional water will be provided. Upon arrival, parents/guardians will be asked to complete a medical form and event waiver.
