In this edition of Five in 15, we sit down with Lisa Kiplinger Kennedy, Executive Director of the Barstow College Foundation, to talk about her return to Barstow Community College, her vision for the Foundation, and the power of building strong community and industry partnerships.

Once upon a time, on the peaceful grounds of Barstow Community College, something mysterious began to unfold. Students whispered of strange sightings: flashes of green, waddling shadows, and the faint sound of... ducks?
Legend has it that a flock of green wellness ducks escaped from The Mindful Space, determined to spread mental health awareness across campus in honor of September's Su***de Prevention Awareness Month. Back for its 2nd Annual adventure, the Duck Hunt invites students to join the fun while helping raise awareness about mental health, hope, and the importance of su***de prevention.
Your mission, should you choose to accept it:
1. Find a green mental health awareness duck
2. Return it to The Mindful Space (Admin Building, Room A6E)
3. Claim your prize and bask in mallard-level bragging rights
Redeem your duck during our Daily Wellness Hours:
Monday–Thursday, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Through the California Jobs First Regional Investment Initiative, we have been awarded 970K to support Barstow Community College and the renovations of the vacant building at Barstow Rd and Rimrock Rd., home of a future workforce training center.

This funding builds on the state’s prior investments into our region, enabling us to implement projects that reflect our community’s unique strengths and priorities. With this funding, we’ll create good-paying jobs and advance sustainable growth, all while keeping local priorities at the forefront.

Together, we’re building resilient communities that will continue to move our region – and our state – forward.
