Lyon College proudly celebrated scholarship, research, leadership, and service during the 2026 Honors Convocation on our Batesville campus!

“This is one of the most special events and traditions we have here at Lyon College,” said Dr. Anthony K. Grafton, executive vice president for academic affairs and provost. “This year, we are especially proud to present these honors, which reflect the hard work, curiosity and determination of our students, as well as the strength of our academic community.”

Director of Athletics Kevin Jenkins and Lyon College Athletics recently announced the hiring of Coach Thomas Orr to lead the Scots men’s basketball program, and he is excited to connect with the Scots family.

The Lyon College Class of 2026 marked a meaningful weekend of celebration May 15-16 with two signature milestones: Baccalaureate and Commencement.

Baccalaureate was held in Becknell Gymnasium, led by Lyon College Chaplain and Director of Service Maggie Alsup, ’11, bringing graduates together for a reflective service honoring their journey and accomplishments.

Commencement followed in Couch Garden, where graduates crossed the stage to officially mark the completion of their Lyon College experience, surrounded by family, friends, faculty, and staff.

This Memorial Day, Lyon College joins our nation in remembering and honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. We also extend our deepest gratitude to all veterans and active-duty military personnel whose dedication protects the freedoms we cherish every day. May we never forget that freedom is never free.

Lyon College will be closed in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 25.

Grab-and-go dining options will be available for resident students from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Monday.

Lyon College is inviting young writers to discover where imagination can take them this summer at The Fiction Lab, a five-day camp designed for students entering grades 7-12 from 1-5 p.m. June 15-19 in Room 106 of the Lyon Building on the Batesville campus.

Taught by Rebecca Sharp, Lyon College director of developmental English, the camp will encourage students to build new worlds, develop characters, explore fresh ideas, and create stories they want to share. Writers of all experience levels are welcome, from seasoned storytellers to those just beginning to put ideas on the page.

Lyon College on Wednesday opened the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine Patient Care Clinic at 5 Allied Drive in Little Rock, expanding dental education and access to care in Arkansas.

“The opening of our patient care clinic represents an important step forward for our school and for the communities we serve,” said Dr. Burke Soffe, founding dean of the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine. “This clinic reflects our mission to educate outstanding dental professionals while providing compassionate, high-quality care to patients across Arkansas.”

During the event, Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. announced a partnership supporting patient assistance funding. President Melissa Taverner said the clinic strengthens care access and student training.

Services at the clinic include cleanings, fillings, crowns, root canals, extractions, dentures, implants and digital imaging.
