Southern University Alumni Federation
Uniting graduates and former students for 81 years. This became the Home Chapter.

Forever encouraging pride in our beloved alma mater.
The Southern University Alumni Federation had its early beginnings from 1920-1932, when a group of graduates from the Normal Division (two year program), the Junior College of 1921-1922 and the first graduating class of the four-year Teacher Training Program of 1931-1932 formed an alumni group called the Southern

University Alumni Association. Although this early alumni group was more social than philanthropic, they were the forerunners of a more organized alumni group that was later formed on the Baton Rouge campus. On Nov. 7, 1941, the Southern University Alumni Federation was chartered by the State of Louisiana. Since its chartering, the Federation has intermittently grown to approximately 50 chapters. It has an active roaster of thousands of alumni across the country and abroad. More than 100,000 former students and graduates contribute their training and leadership to the world as educators, politicians, physicians, engineers, artists, ministers, nurses, attorneys and military officers. Their professional contributions verify the significant role Southern University has held in Louisiana, the United States and the world. During the past 79 years, our alumni's role in civic and political affairs has increased markedly, with many holding elected and appointed offices. The Southern University Alumni Federation encourages our graduates to become involved in community affairs. The Federation recognizes that in order for the University to secure its rightful place in the scheme of higher education, we must be involved in the process responsible for the delivery of funds and facilities to the University that will ultimately attract faculty and students.
