Southern University Alumni Federation
Uniting graduates and former students for 81 years. This became the Home Chapter.

Forever encouraging pride in our beloved alma mater.
The Southern University Alumni Federation had its early beginnings from 1920-1932, when a group of graduates from the Normal Division (two year program), the Junior College of 1921-1922 and the first graduating class of the four-year Teacher Training Program of 1931-1932 formed an alumni group called the Southern

University Alumni Association. Although this early alumni group was more social than philanthropic, they were the forerunners of a more organized alumni group that was later formed on the Baton Rouge campus. On Nov. 7, 1941, the Southern University Alumni Federation was chartered by the State of Louisiana. Since its chartering, the Federation has intermittently grown to approximately 50 chapters. It has an active roaster of thousands of alumni across the country and abroad. More than 100,000 former students and graduates contribute their training and leadership to the world as educators, politicians, physicians, engineers, artists, ministers, nurses, attorneys and military officers. Their professional contributions verify the significant role Southern University has held in Louisiana, the United States and the world. During the past 79 years, our alumni's role in civic and political affairs has increased markedly, with many holding elected and appointed offices. The Southern University Alumni Federation encourages our graduates to become involved in community affairs. The Federation recognizes that in order for the University to secure its rightful place in the scheme of higher education, we must be involved in the process responsible for the delivery of funds and facilities to the University that will ultimately attract faculty and students.

Southern has been part of my life since childhood! Celebrating birthdays on campus, growing up in the stands on game day, and eventually earning my law degree from Southern University Law Center.

Southern raised me.

Now I’m stepping forward to serve.

I am officially a candidate for President of the Southern University Alumni Federation, and this campaign is about bringing alumni together and strengthening the system we love.

Together we will:
1. Re-engage alumni
2. Build mentorship between alumni and students
3. Expand alumni giving
4. Celebrate alumni excellence
5. Ensure alumni voices are engaged and informed

Southern has always been bigger than any one of us.

But when alumni move together, there is nothing we cannot accomplish.

Let’s take Southern From the Yard to the World!

VOTE Tramelle Howard Alumni Federation President!

Distance doesn’t define impact… the work does.

While some may question effectiveness based on location, the results speak for themselves.

From Washington, DC, I didn’t just represent Southern University—I produced outcomes:

✔️ 22+ recruitment fairs connecting students to the Yard

✔️ $32K+ in scholarships invested back into our future Jaguars

✔️ 28 first-time students enrolled

✔️ Fundraising leadership that delivered real support

✔️ Built programs like DMV JAGS to strengthen student engagement

This is what Recruitment. Retention. Readiness. looks like in action.

Leadership is not about proximity—it’s about productivity. It’s about showing up, following through, and delivering results that move the entire Federation forward.

I’ve done the work locally. I’m ready to scale it nationally.

Let’s take proven leadership to the next level.

The Future of Southern is NOW.
I am running for President of the Southern University Alumni Federation because I believe Southern deserves leadership that is rooted in service, built on trust, and focused on sustainability.
My campaign focuses on four cornerstones that will help us build a stronger, more connected future for our Federation and our University.
First, SUstaining Alumni Engagement. We must move from simple participation to real permanence by creating year-round structures that keep alumni connected, involved, and contributing across generations.
Second, SUstaining Student Success. Our alumni network should help open doors for students through scholarships, mentorship, career preparation, and meaningful support that helps move students from access to achievement.
Third, SUstaining Institutional Trust. Southern needs alumni leadership that builds credibility through transparent communication, consistency, and alignment with the University’s priorities.
Fourth, SUstaining Leadership and Systems. We cannot keep restarting every cycle. We need leadership pipelines, shared tools, and stronger systems that create continuity and long-term impact.
This campaign is bigger than one election. It is about building a SUstainable Southern where our alumni are engaged, our students are supported, our leadership is trusted, and our systems are built to last.
Southern pride is not just something we feel. It is something we act on.
I would be honored to have your support, your prayers, and your vote.
