LSU School of Music The LSU School of Music offers its students one of the nation’s most comprehensive music programs.

As part of LSU’s College of Music and Dramatic Arts, the School of Music offers its students one of the nation’s most comprehensive music programs. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music since 1931, the program includes approximately 70 faculty and staff members, 300 undergraduates, and 150 graduate students. Divisions include academic studies, bands, ensembles and conducting,

instrumental, keyboard, music education, and voice/opera. Undergraduate degrees offered include:
Bachelor of Arts in music
Bachelor of Music (composition, performance, piano pedagogy)
Bachelor of Music Education (instrumental and vocal)

Graduate degrees offered include:
Master of Music (collaborative piano, composition, conducting, jazz studies, music education, musicology, performance, piano pedagogy, theory)
Doctor of Musical Arts (choral conducting, performance, orchestral conduction, wind conducting)
Doctor of Philosophy in Music (composition, music education, musicology, music theory, experimental music & digital media)

The LSU School of Music is proud to announce that Dr. John Madere has been named Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies & Bass.

A Louisiana native and LSU alumnus, Dr. Madere brings nearly two decades of professional experience as a bassist, educator, composer, and recording artist. Since 2007, he has served as principal bassist with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra while maintaining an active career in jazz performance and education.

We are excited for the artistry, mentorship, and deep Louisiana roots he will bring to our students and ensembles.
