The LSU Staff Stripes Award recognizes staff members who demonstrate outstanding service to Louisiana State University. Help us celebrate the people who make a difference in our campus community every day!

Who can be nominated?
Any LSU staff member who has been employed by LSU for at least one year.

Remember:
• Faculty and staff are encouraged to submit nominations.
• Nominees must be currently employed by LSU and have at least one year of service.
• Self-nominations are not accepted.

At this week’s General Meeting the LSU Staff Senate had the distinct honor of presenting the family of J. Anthony "Tony" Cavell with an LSU flag flown over the Parade Ground in his memory.

Tony's connection to LSU spanned a lifetime. The son of LSU alumni, an LSU graduate himself, and the father of four LSU graduates, LSU was woven into the fabric of his family's story. He met his wife, Kay, at LSU, and together their family's legacy includes six LSU degrees.

After a distinguished career in surveying and geospatial technology, Tony returned to LSU in 2005 and dedicated more than two decades to strengthening Louisiana's geospatial infrastructure through his work with the LSU Center for Geoinformatics and the Louisiana Spatial Reference Center.

As Louisiana State Geodetic Coordinator and Associate Director of the Center for Geoinformatics, he helped develop and expand GulfNet and C4GNet, contributed to one of the largest university-owned GNSS reference networks in the world, and played a key role in securing more than $5.7 million in federal height modernization grants that support transportation, agriculture, coastal restoration, emergency management, scientific research, and disaster recovery across Louisiana.

Beyond his many professional accomplishments, Tony was known as a mentor, educator, and lifelong learner who generously shared his knowledge with students, colleagues, professionals, and future generations.

The commemorative flag, displayed in a handcrafted case built by LSU Facility Services, serves as a lasting tribute to a man whose legacy will continue to impact LSU and the State of Louisiana for years to come.

Thank you to Guest Speaker Katti Galatas-Lee, Associate Director (LSU HRM-Benefits) for talking with Staff Senate about Annual Enrollment at yesterday’s general meeting.

Annual Enrollment will close on Friday, November 13, 2026 at 4 PM CST.

Reminder: Workday will not allow for any changes to be made after the Annual Enrollment period has ended. All changes made will be effective January 1, 2027.

Make sure to stop by the Benefits Grand Prix on Wednesday, October 28th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom, LSU Student Union (second floor).

We’re collecting gently used books to give our amazing campus custodians the opportunity to pick out a great read of their own.

Staff Senate is hosting its 3rd Annual pumpkin decorating contest! We're going where no gourd has gone before!

The theme is "Out of this Gourd" (think aliens, UFOs, outer space, futuristic technology, or your wildest imagination).

Entries will be judged on the following categories:

Best Cosmic Creation — Best galaxy, planet, or outer-space scene.
Most Otherworldly — Most imaginative and unexpected design.
Best in the Galaxy — Overall winner.
Earthlings’ Choice — People’s Choice award.
