The Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center (SUAREC) was established on July 1, 2001 out of the need to enhance the impact of our land-grant programs on the citizenry of the state of Louisiana. The mission of the Center is to conduct basic and applied research, and disseminate information to the citizens of Louisiana in a manner that is useful in addressing their scientific,

technological, social, economic and cultural needs. SUAREC encompasses the Center for Small Farm Research, which was established in 1983, the Cooperative Extension Program, the S.U. The Center's programs are, and will continue to be, multi-disciplinary with collaboration among research scientists and cooperative extension personnel from Southern University and the LSU Agricultural Center.Programs in the Center will focus on, but are not limited to, the following areas: Sustainable Agricultural Production Systems; Human Nutrition, Diet and Health; Family, Youth Development and Enrichment; Urban Forestry; Natural Resources and Environment and Economics, Marketing, Policy and Community Development. A look at some recent JAGcation highlights!

Campers explored emotional wellness with Healing House Hope for Grieving Children, financial literacy with The Lauryn Adams Foundation and Southern Teachers & Parents Federal Credit Union, healthy hygiene habits with the Public Health Team, disaster preparedness with Volunteer Louisiana, physical activity, and stress management through a hands-on mini zen garden activity led by the Center of Excellence.

Learning comes in many forms, and these experiences helped campers build knowledge, confidence, and life skills in an interactive and engaging way.

JAGcation Summer Camp kicked off today with an Opening Ceremony, welcoming campers for two weeks of learning, discovery, and fun. Following the welcome, campers put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test during the STEAM Gravity Roller Coaster Challenge before enjoying an interactive Reptile Show.

We’re excited to see them build new skills, make lasting memories, and discover new interests through hands-on experiences in STEAM, agriculture, financial literacy, leadership, health, and wellness throughout the camp.

Yesterday, we concluded another successful year of the Hip Hop to Gen Z Camp by celebrating the accomplishments of an exceptional group of students during our closing ceremony.

Throughout the camp, students engaged in hands-on learning experiences in studio engineering, filmmaking and production, songwriting and vocal coaching, DJing, stage presence, and college and career readiness. These experiences provided valuable opportunities to develop technical skills, build confidence, and explore careers within the creative and entertainment industries.

Thank you to our instructors, staff, interns, families, and supporters for helping make this experience possible. Congratulations to our students on a successful completion of the program. We are proud of your growth and look forward to all that you will achieve in the future!

This program is designed for nonprofits, small businesses, entrepreneurs, and community leaders seeking to strengthen their grant readiness and improve their ability to secure funding.

Chair Pilates on June 8th was a great reminder that small movements can make a big impact!

Participants enjoyed an energizing wellness session focused on movement, flexibility, and overall well-being. A special thank you to Xtreme Life with Tanesha for leading such an empowering and refreshing class.
