LATEST UPDATE: May 4

Dear Students,

Lee College is thankful for your patience and flexibility during the past month. We are resuming the Spring 2020 ‘paused’ classes effective Monday, May 18, through Friday, June 12. Hands-on courses resuming instruction include those courses taught at the Main campus in Baytown, the McNair Center and the Lee College Education Center at South Liberty County. Please be sure to check your myLC email and Blackboard to communicate with your instructor to verify the days/times/location of your class.

Safety is our top priority at Lee College, especially as we resume hands-on lab instruction. For your safety, and the safety of others, please be sure to follow these guidelines:

All students should arrive to class with their face covered. Face coverings can be masks, bandanas, scarves, or any other similar type of cloth that can be used to cover the face.
Here are some ideas: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/cloth-face-cover.html
All students must practice good hand-washing hygiene and are encouraged to wash/sanitize hands before and after every class period.
Hand sanitizer and sanitization wipes will be provided to scheduled classrooms.
All students, faculty, and staff must practice social distancing, per CDC guidelines, by remaining at least six feet apart at all times.
Upon arrival, and where appropriate, specialized tools or equipment should be sanitized with a sanitization wipe or a mild soap bath.
Water fountains will not be available. If students bring their own bottled water, the containers must be kept on or near their person or work station. Bottles should not be stored together in a closed location, nor should they be shared.
Gathering in public spaces, such as break rooms, lounges, or hallways, is prohibited.

Dr Lynda Villanueva, Lee College president, shares an important update concerning Harris County's current mandates as well as remote services for students.

03/26/2020

LATEST UPDATE: March 23

Dear Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

By now you have likely heard of the orders from Harris County Judge Hidalgo ordering a “Stay Home. Work Safe” order. This order has significant impacts on our current response plan to the COVID-19 pandemic. The good news is that we are already operating almost fully remotely. As a result, we have a much narrower gap of items to comply with the order. Let me share what I know and what this means for us right now:

1. As of March 24, no student or employee has been confirmed with COVID-19.

2. College facilities will be closed to the public, including students and non-essential personnel effective Wednesday, March 25. Employees who need to gather materials to work from home should plan to do so TODAY before 8 p.m.

3. Beginning Wednesday, March 25, all Lee College facilities will only be accessible to essential employees who have been contacted by their leader to come in. If you are an essential employee, your leader will let you know what responsibilities you have. Essential employees will be asked to comply with specific procedures issued by their leaders to ensure CDC guidelines for screening and sanitation. Under no circumstances should you show up on campus without expressed permission.

4. Lee College will remain in this altered operations period until the Federal, State, and Local Authorities change the status of the COVID-19 situation and lift the “Stay Home. Work Safe” order.

5. Students Services are now fully online. Visit the Lee College Coronavirus website – student resources web page for more information.

6. Course resources, including library, electronic textbooks, tutoring, and Blackboard help are available online. For more information, visit the Lee College Coronavirus website – library, tutoring, and other course support services.

7. The College Bookstores are fulfilling online orders for book requests and shipping books directly to students. For more information, visit the Lee College Coronavirus website – bookstore update web page.

8. We will continue to pay employees throughout the altered operations period.
This is an unprecedented time for all of us. I appreciate your patience and flexibility as we continue to think about and analyze all the details. We will get through this together!

Best,

Lynda Villanueva
President, Lee College

Lee College is closely tracking COVID-19 (coronavirus). There are currently no cases at Lee College. We are committed to the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff. We are continuously monitoring the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Texas Department of State Health Services, and Harris County Public Health.

What you need to know:

LATEST UPDATE: Wed., March 18

Dear Lee College Students,

We are facing an unprecedented time as the entire country is feeling the challenges associated with the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Your safety, and that of our employees and community, remains our top priority.

As we continue to follow and learn more about the progression of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with your safety in mind, we have made the decision to deliver courses virtually (or through alternative delivery) beginning March 23 until April 12, or until it is determined it is safe to resume normal course delivery. During this time, the college campus will remain closed to the general public.

All student support services will be provided remotely during this time. Accommodations will be made for students to use a computer lab and the Testing Center by appointment. We ask that you please continue to be patient and flexible as we work through all the complex issues surrounding this semester. It is like no other that any of us has experienced!

You should check the Blackboard system and your Lee College email daily for additional updates. We have also established the email address [email protected] to answer questions from the Lee College community.

We realize that this situation is quickly changing every day. College administration are in frequent contact with HCPH, the City of Houston Health Department, and surrounding cities to monitor the virus as it pertains to our region. The college will continue to follow recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO), and will assess any new information as it becomes available. The college will make informed decisions based on the facts received from local health department authorities.

As a reminder, WHO and CDC prevention guidelines include:

Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with flexed elbow or tissue – throw any used tissue away immediately, and wash hands.
Avoid close contact with anyone who has fever and cough.
If you have a fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, seek medical care early, and share previous travel history with your health care provider.
Routinely clean all frequently touched surfaces in the workplace, such as workstations, countertops, and doorknobs. Use the cleaning agents that are usually used in these areas, and follow the directions on the label.

If you have not yet signed up for Rebel Alerts to receive voice and text messages from the college during an emergency situation such as COVID-19, now is a great time to do so. To sign up visit www.lee.edu/alerts/.
