Growing Equity in Science and Technology GEST is an organization founded to provide STEM opportunities and role models for students in Eastern GEST 2026 will take place on April 18th, 2026!

Check back later for more information! GEST was founded to provide STEM opportunities to students in Eastern North Carolina (ENC). There is a wide range of science and engineering research happening in ENC. Our goal is to expose students to this breadth of STEM fields and provide role models to inspire excitement and a long-term interest in STEM. We wanted to share that the GEST team has updated a

nd expanded our mission to better serve our diverse communities in eastern NC. GEST now stands for Growing Equity in Science and Technology, with two events in eastern NC, one hosted by UNC-IMS serving high school students and one at Duke’s Marine Lab for middle school students. All students are welcome. We look forward to hosting future GEST events, including our 2023 event which will take place on April 1st, 2023 at the Duke University Marine Lab! More information and registration details to come soon. The event organizers are collaborating from across different marine science institutions as well as with the regional Girl Scout council. REGISTER NOW for event on April 12!

Growing Equity in Science & Technology (GEST) is an annual outreach event held at the Duke University Marine Laboratory that introduces middle school students to the exciting world of STEM. Through hands-on activities, interactive workshops, and panel discussions led by local scientists, GEST inspires students from diverse backgrounds to explore careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Our mission is to create an inclusive space where all students can envision themselves as future STEM leaders, fostering confidence and curiosity to shape a more equitable future.
