AKD Lamar This is the official organization page for the Alpha Kappa Delta International Honor Society at Lamar University.

The AKD, stands for Alpha Kappa Delta, is a non-secret, democratic, international honor society of sociology scholars dedicated to the ideal of Athropon Katamannthanein Diakonesin; or “to investigate humanity for the purpose of service.” The AKD was founded at the University of Southern California in 1920 by Dr. Emory S. Bogardus and became affiliated with the Association of College Honor Societies in 1967.

The deadline is fast approaching to enroll in Dr. Boyett's criminal justice course "International Perspectives on Justice". This course is open to both undergraduate and graduate students for the Many Mini 2024 term. Students will travel to the Mediterranean country of Croatia, located in southeastern Europe.

During this course, students will participate in a global course on Victimology, Victim Assistance, and Criminal Justice on the campus of the Inter University Centre of Dubrovnik. The course will be taught in English and feature faculty and student participants from universities around the world. Students who complete this course will receive a certificate of completion from the IUC--a great resume booster!--plus 3 hours of course credit at Lamar.

Congratulations to Kwanita Adair, our new AKD President for 2019-2020. We are very excited to have her lead the organization and AKD event in the 2019 academic year. We are also excited to invite our former AKD president, Andrew Strange, to serve as the AKD advisor. Andrew is very active at Lamar not only offer courses in the Sociology program but also to mentor and advise students on campus. We are excited to have him remain active in AKD.
