Meet Elijah Stewart, one of our new TRIO SSS Peer Tutors! Elijah is a sophomore at WVU Tech, and he is majoring in Nursing with a minor in Business Administration! A fun fact about Elijah is that he is a Wilderness First Responder and a CPR instructor!

Some of Elijah's favorite classes to tutor are English, Anatomy, and Physiology.

💙 TRIO Tuesday! 💛

Did you know that being a student in the TRIO SSS program greatly increases your chances of earning your bachelor's degree? According to the U.S. Department of Education, students in TRIO SSS are 18% more likely to earn a bachelor's degree.

This is because the FREE resources that are provided to all of the students in the program greatly benefit those who take advantage of them. Students that have free access to advising and a support system on campus have a greater chance of earning their degree!

Meet Nickolas Escobedo, the TRIO SSS Office Assistant for the 2026-27 academic year! Nick is a junior, and he is majoring in Mechanical Engineering and minoring in Forensic Investigation here at WVU Tech.

A fun fact about Nick is that he is also the SGA Treasurer at WVU Tech. His favorite TRIO event is BooFest!

Nick is here to help all of the students in our program. If you ever need assistance while you're in our office, look for him and he'll be happy to help you!

📖 Fun Fact Friday! 🫁

Did you know that the longest word in most major English dictionaries is 45 letters long? That word is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis!

This is a lung disease that is caused by breathing in very fine ash and sand dust. Here is the breakdown of this word that gives it's meaning:

Pneumono - Lung
ultra - Extremely
microscopic - Very Small
silico - Silicon or Sand Dust
volcano - Volcanic Ash
coniosis - Dust induced lung scarring

However, the word is actually a synonym for the inflammatory lung disease called silicosis. This word was actually only invented to set a world record!

Did you know that the TRIO programs across the state of West Virginia serve more than 4,000 students each academic year?

TRIO Upward Bound came to WVU Tech in 1966, and the program currently services 7 high schools in the state. TRIO Student Support Services came to WVU Tech in 1971 and has helped thousands of students graduate college!
