Training is provided to area employers when specific employee skills need to be developed, improved or enriched to keep up with production or technological advances. The ultimate goal of the workforce program is to develop a seamless workforce training system that ensures the presence of a highly skilled workforce, thereby advancing the economic prosperity of the region by supporting existing industries as well as creating new high-skill and high-wage job opportunities for job seekers. Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Program helps finance training for eligible participants through On-The-Job-Training, Individual Training Accounts, and Supportive Service federal funding on state approved academic, technical, and vocational training programs. Registration is underway at the ICC Belden Center for a Forklift Operator Training class, which will meet June 1 from 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Highlights include OSHA safety instruction, forklift simulator practice, safety check protocol and hands-on driving, loading and unloading operation. It’s possible to continue learning with ICC’s continuing education class, Certified Nursing Assistant, which meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5-9 p.m., Mar. 20-May 24. The program prepares participants to take the exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. Upon successful completion of the program and the exam, nursing assistants may find employment with nursing homes, medical centers, home healthcare providers and clinics. North Mississippi Medical Center is hosting a Mentorship Academy for high school students beginning March 7, 2023. Participants will meet from 3-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays for six weeks (skipping Spring Break week). The student will also be required to complete a two-hour shadowing session each of those weeks.

Interested students should apply by Feb. 10 at www.nmhs.net/youth-education. Along with their application, students are required to submit their high school transcript, a 250-word essay, references and their ACT score if taken (not required). Interviews will be held at NMMC or virtually.

Following successful completion of the Mentorship Academy, each participant will receive certified nursing assistant training during the summer. The 80-clock-hour Certified Nursing Assistant Program will be held June 5-21, 2023 at Itawamba Community College’s Belden campus.

ICC is offering an electricity class June 6-9 from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at the Belden Center. This course provides instruction in the basic laws, formulas and principles of electrical theory. AC and DC voltage, current and resistance measuring techniques and electrical safety in the work environment during lab experiments. Subjects covered include basic electrical circuits, electrical measurements, circuit analysis, Inductance and capacitance, combination circuits, transformers and the proper use of multimeters.
