GUIDANCE FOR STUDENTS CURRENTLY EMPLOYED IN WORK SETTINGS
The following is a message from Experiential Learning in the Center for Career Connections, concerning health safety protocols that will affect any Bellevue College student employed in an internship or work-based learning for practicum credit, or any BC interior design student who is employed in an office, retail or other workplace environment.
Please read the message to you, and share the message that follows with your employer.

Dear intern,
First of all, we would like to thank you for all the work you have put into your internship.
In accord with Governor Inslee’s guidelines surrounding COVID-19 and BC’s policy of moving all classes online, we are requiring all BC interns to work remotely from their homes beginning March 20. This policy will remain in place until BC begins offering on-ground classes again, which will not happen until April 27 at the earliest.
Many of you have already worked with your internship sites to arrange telecommuting and virtual work options. If you have already done this, you can continue your internship and this email doesn’t really apply to you. If you are still working physically at your internship site, please consult with your supervisor today to let them know that you will need to begin working remotely on March 20. You may use today to pack up any belongings that you have at your internship site.
To summarize,
1) All existing interns who are able to work from home --> okay to continue until the end date of the internship
2) All existing interns who are not able to work from home --> suspend internship
3) Spring Quarter interns who are able to work from home --> good to go and register for another internship course
4) Spring Quarter interns who are not able to work from home --> must wait to register for an internship course until BC resumes on-ground courses
We have made this decision because your health and safety are of utmost importance to us. No matter what happens, we would like to reassure you that this will not have an adverse impact on your grades. Your internship coordinator will work with you to ensure that you complete your internship successfully. You will have a range of options, which may include:
• Continuing your current internship duties remotely from your home
• Exploring alternate duties that can be done from your home
• Pausing your internship until BC resumes on-ground courses
• Cancelling your internship and removing the internship course from your transcript
We are also sending a note to explain this policy to your internship supervisors, so they should not be surprised when you talk to them about this.
Meanwhile, if you have any questions, please reach out to your internship coordinator, and they will be happy to work with you to come up with solutions.
Stay well and safe!!

Dear internship partner,
We would like to thank you for your continued support of our Bellevue College students and our internship program.
In accord with Governor Inslee’s guidelines surrounding COVID-19 and BC’s policy of moving all classes online, we are now requiring all BC interns to work remotely from their homes beginning Friday, March 20. This policy will remain in place until BC begins offering on-ground classes again, which will not happen until April 27 at the earliest. We are making this change because our primary concern is for the health and safety of our students.
Many of you have already worked with your interns to arrange telecommuting and virtual work options. If you have already done this, please accept our sincere thanks. If your interns are already working remotely from their homes, they can continue their internships and this email doesn’t really apply to you.
If interns are still working at your place of business, please help them gather up any belongings they may have on site. They will not be able to return to the internship site between March 20 until whenever BC resumes on-ground courses. We respectfully ask you to work with your teams to find projects that your interns can do remotely. We fully realize that this will not be possible for some employers, and there is no expectation that you provide remote projects. If a student needs to pause or suspend their internship, it will not adversely impact their grades at all.
We will be back in touch as soon as we know when the college will resume on-ground courses including internships.
In the meanwhile, please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. We hope to continue to work in partnership with you for future opportunities.
We sincerely appreciate all that you have done for our students. Please know that you are in our thoughts as we work together to get through this.
Stay safe and thanks again,
Dan Beert
