In the latter stages of my research on Yates County’s Admiral Frank Schofield, on the internet I kept bumping into this kid playing high school basketball in Illinois named ….. Admiral Schofield. It turns out that the kid got a scholarship to play basketball for the University of Tennessee and is now their second leading scorer. Tennessee played Kentucky in Lexington last Tuesday (Feb. 6th.) I have a good friend down there so I signed a book on Admiral Schofield to be given to Admiral Schofield. My friend took it to the shoot around the afternoon before the game.
It turns out that his father is a career Navy man with a deep sense of history. Admiral has a younger brother named General. General Schofield was in the Union army during the Civil War. I just thought it makes for a cool story.
