Bennington College

Bennington College Bennington College is a liberal arts college in Bennington, Vermont. Bennington College holds a distinguished place among American colleges and universities.

It was the first to include the visual and performing arts in a liberal arts education. Bennington is the only college in the country to require an annual internship, Field Work Term, since its founding. For two months every winter students work with an organization or institution of their choosing, anywhere in the world, to apply what they have learned on campus and to bring focus to what they st

udy at Bennington. Rooted in an abiding faith in the talent, imagination, and responsibility of the individual, Bennington invites students to pursue and shape their own intellectual inquiries, and in doing so to discover the profound interconnection of things. Bennington liberates and nurtures the individuality and rigorous creativity of its students, supporting them as they forge their own paths and work toward a world more beautiful, sustainable, democratic, and just. Located in the picturesque southwestern corner of Vermont, Bennington borders New York's capital district and the culture-rich Berkshire region of western Massachusetts. The College is a short drive to its southern neighbors Williams College, The Clark Art Museum, and MASS MoCA and to the shopping, outdoor adventure, and literary offerings just to its north in Manchester, Vermont.

Hampshire’s closure speaks squarely to questions of what college is for.

Spend a week in the Green Mountains this summer, exploring how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping creativity, decision making, and everyday life.

AI, Creativity and Ethics will be taught by Faculty member Darcy Otto. Otto is currently finishing his book, "The Promise of Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing," where he discusses the limits of computation in the face of emerging technologies.

Rather than focusing on technical training, this workshop invites participants to explore AI as a human-built system connected to creativity, exploration, interpretation, and decision making. Over the course of a week, you’ll carefully examine how AI is being used in writing, art, and design while developing a deeper understanding of the ideas, assumptions, and ethical questions behind it. The emphasis is on understanding, not mastery.

Spend a week this summer in southern Vermont, developing your voice through critical and creative writing.

Faculty members Camille Guthrie and Alex Creighton will be leading the writing workshop "Modern Monsters: Culture, Meaning, and Writing." Throughout the week, you will ask yourself what monsters reveal about our culture, our fears, and ourselves.

Rooted in Bennington’s interdisciplinary approach to writing, the summer writing program emphasizes developing your writing voice, collaborating with colleagues, writing as thinking, and expanding your critical skills.
