The Therapeutic Function of Music Plan for Professionals Center for Music Therapy and Cleveland State School of Music Two Day Workshop
Music is a complex intervention strategy and music therapists recognize the importance of the characteristics of music elements for effective therapeutic outcomes. Greater clarity for the role of the music elements in therapeutic outcomes is desired; yet few strategic methods exist to support the description of the musical elements in the development of treatment interventions. This workshop will help professionals learn how to use the Therapeutic Function of Music (TFM) Plan to support intentional application of the music elements for therapeutic outcomes. Participants will practice applying the TFM Plan to their clinical situations and a specified treatment goal. Participants will also recognize how the TFM Plan can support treatment fidelity and communication with clients, families, colleagues and other stakeholders. An opportunity to analyze and discuss the TFM Plan in music therapy practice will conclude the workshop. Prior to attending, participants should identify a focused outcome or goal central to their music therapy practice and read the supporting article (Hanson-Abromeit, 2015, Music Therapy Perspectives).
