Berea College - Special Collections & Archives The Special Collections & Archives Department of Hutchins Library plays an important role in support of Berea College's mission and programs.

The Berea College Special Collections & Archives houses archival and book collections that document the history and culture of Berea College and Southern Appalachia. The Department's rare books, archives, manuscripts, sound and visual media collections assist the College in providing an exceptionally strong liberal arts education for students from the Southern Appalachian region and beyond. It is

the primary purpose of Special Collections & Archives to collect, preserve, and organize printed, archival, manuscript, and sound materials related to Berea College, the Southern Appalachian region, and the community of Berea.

Onyx Patchworks: exploring Black American history held within Berea College archives. We have teamed up with Berea based artist, public scholar, Dr. Jaleesa Wells , who is exhibiting her quilted artworks pertaining to the stories of Berea alumni Julia Britton Hooks, Henry Allen Laine and Dr. Carter G. Woodson. We invite you to visit the exhibition on the main Hutchins Library floor, running till 26th February.
