📣BLOCKELEY DAY Q&A PANEL ANNOUNCEMENT📣: Our first keynote speaker is Jeff McKune who is a principal engineering manager on Minecraft with extensive experience at Microsoft solving the world’s most urgent problems.
He's been on the team for almost 5 years, and is responsible for the engineering system (build and test automation) and player safety including the in-game experience, high-scale abuse detection in text and images and the end-to-end backend intelligence system.

His first job in Minecraft was dev on Minecraft: Education Edition where his focus was getting Minecraft into the classroom and leveraging Minecraft to teach kids how to code (integrating with Code.org Hour of Code, MakeCode, Tynker, Scratch and Python). Today, Minecraft: Education Edition is the world’s most popular game-based learning platform.

Before Minecraft, he worked in Windows Safety on massive scale, closed loop intelligence systems to protect Windows and IE/Edge users from phishing and malware. This work includes creating abuse prevention user experiences, client code integration, delivering high scale reputation delivery web services and writing machine learning intel algorithms in a big data environment.

What is Blockeley?

Blockeley was started amid the emergence of the Coronavirus. It had humble origins, with the UC Berkeley Campus Replica being started by Bjorn Lustic and a few of his friends and siblings. To this day, Blockeley has already hosted an Orientation for 400 incoming freshmen, is working with UC Berkeley and our chancellor, Carol Christ to host the 2020 UC Berkeley Virtual Commencement, and is planning an incredible Music Festival for college students worldwide to celebrate the end of the school year and to raise money for COVID-19 Releif. Thank you to all of the builders and inner team who could make this all happen.
