Hello wonderful people of (and soon to be) CED!! With Cal Day quickly approaching, the CED Ambassadors team wanted to take some time to introduce some of our members! The intention of these posts is to first recognize our ambassadors who have been diligently working all year, and to let you all know where you can expect to see them on the 24th!

Our first cohort consists of our wonderful landscape architects: Miles, Xitlali, and Phi!

Their locations are still TBD, but check back on this post if you're an aspiring (or current!) landscape architect, have interest in any of our member's stories, or just about anything else. Feel free to email us with any questions at cedambassadors(at)berkeley.edu, or by directly messaging this page!

Looking forward to hearing from you,
The CED Ambassador Team

And we’re back! Another week, another highlight! This week we recognize our fellow ambassadors from the Outreach Team who have dedicated their time to help CED Ambassadors reach out to you in hopes that you know CED Ambassadors are here to help!

On that note, this week, Julia Wilson from the Outreach Team would like to share her experience and advice with both prospective and current students:
“Take classes that are interesting to you, not necessarily to fulfill a requirement. Berkeley has so many amazing professors and staff in the CED and outside that it would be a shame to not take advantage of it.”

What’s the best part of CED? We can’t choose! Nevertheless, to Julia, experiencing a sense of a tight-knit community in CED wins:
“My favorite part of CED is the community. I've known my classmates personally throughout the four years at Berkeley and it's made my time here really special.”

Lookout for out future posts and updates, in the meantime, we hope this post reiterates how CED Ambassadors are here to help you! More updates/highlights to come, stay tuned!

This week, ambassadors in the UPDATING MATERIALS Team would like to share some advice and personal experience for prospective students!

Here's what Akshata Atre had to say for prospective Architecture students:

"Use freshman year as an exploratory year. Take classes outside of College of Environmental Design! Then, start taking upper div reqs in sophomore year so that you have more flexibility come senior year.

Most studio assignments will take longer than you think. Plan ahead and manage your time so that you don't have to pull all-nighters! I also highly recommend setting a stopping time every night...most assignments really aren't worth losing sleep over...

The one major regret I have throughout college is how much time I've spent in studio--get out of Wurster!!! There's so much to do, and a lot of it you can do solo :)"

Regarding her personal experience, Adeline Leung shared:

"The entire college is housed in Wurster Hall and is a mini community of its own. When I'm in the building, I bump into people I know in the hallways and in the lecture halls. This really exemplifies the close community in our college within the larger UC Berkeley. Furthermore, there's always always something interesting going on in the building that I can look at and learn from, so that's one unique aspect of CED that I love!"

Look forward to more updates from our various committees! We hope to share more advice and personal experiences for prospective students!

Come one, come all! Applications for the Admissions Ambassadors Internship are out and due by Monday, April 20!

Share your narrative and help keep Wurster vibrant and feel even more like home!

From the veteran fourth-year architects, international transfer students, to newly admitted urban designers,
the Admission Ambassador's program brings together a talented pool of students that reflects the rich diversity within our Wurster community.

As an admissions ambassador, you will work with outreach to spread awareness of possible career paths in the field of environmental design to underrepresented groups, international students, and prospective freshman and transfers.

This is a great opportunity for underclassmen ambassadors to be introduced to all that CED has to offer--from knowing favorite spots in Wurster, being personally introduced to distinguished professors and researchers, and having a community cutting across all the years and majors, all the while telling their stories and where they come from. Upperclassmen get to share their experiences and their narrative more within college--giving advice and guidance to prospective and concurrent students, networking with professors outside of their departments, and gaining critical skills necessary for post-grad success.

Whether through directly working with professors, alumni, or the advising team; interviewing visiting scholars and our researchers; giving in person tours or informational presentations at local community colleges and high schools, the Admissions Ambassador team gives its members valuable professional, communication, public speaking, and community building skills. Specifically, participating in intergroup dialogues, advocating for and sharing one's own narrative, and articulating information are skills polished and refined throughout the course of the year. Yet, while these skills are crucial in themselves, you also have the opportunity to make strong, lasting friendships with students in the College of Environmental Design!

If any of this interests you, we urge you to apply! Please feel free to ask us any questions!

Applications are due by Monday, April 20

Happy spring, fellow designers!

With all the changes that have occurred due to the unforeseen COVID-19 pandemic, we hope to provide some uplifting updates on our current activities and future events. To start off, congratulations to the new College of Environmental Design admits! You all have worked hard to get to where you are now, and we hope to see you guys this upcoming semester. Keep reading for more information on how to prepare for your first semester at CED and Cal.

Although Cal Day has been cancelled this year, we would like to share a new event in replacement of it—Cal Week! Cal Week comprises of several virtual panels and presentations throughout the week of Sat April 18th through Friday April 24. Incoming freshman can join online using the Zoom platform to listen in on student experiences from all four of the undergraduate majors at CED, available resources at the college, as well as major specific panels where we will answer any and all questions. For more details, go to
https://ced.berkeley.edu/students/undergraduate-advising/newly-admitted-students

We would also like to mention that throughout the month of April, our CED Admissions Ambassadors can connect with newly admitted students and their families! Talk to current CED students, learn more about your new major and life in the College of Environmental Design, and find out ways to get involved! Schedule a session here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfU3mUSHBUit0im6VF-IS2dCxlBtlRRN4fEmzjHM-CuoUnbcw/viewform
We would love to get in touch with you all.

We will resume our CED Admissions Ambassadors spotlight posts in the near future, so look forward to those to learn more about our fantastic ambassadors and their roles within the organization.

Keep social distancing, and remember to be kind to one another during these trying times!

During the spring semester, CED Admissions Ambassadors organize into 5 different committees. This week, we would like to highlight...SWAG Team! This committee designs and organizes the production of CED Admissions Ambassadors brand products to spread the word of our humble college and our very own organization within it. These products are also a splendid way to showcase our pride and to attract prospective CED students to make our college that much brighter. This semester's team includes Anjing Li, Sihan Zhao, Wendy Jeon, and Homan Wong. Special shoutout to Alex Gonzalez, a recently graduated ambassador, who is still working alongside the current SWAG team to finish some spectacular digital designs!

Here is an update from fellow SWAG team member, Anjing Li:

“There are two things that the SWAG team is focusing on this semester. We are managing the annual sticker competition, which is a design competition that is opened to everyone within the college who wishes to submit sticker designs to represent any of the four majors. We will gather design proposals and distribute the winning designs during the Cal Day as well as throughout the next year.
The second thing is to make the internal SWAG goodies for ambassadors. Current ideas include t-shirts, sweatshirts, water bottles, notebooks, pencil cases, and canvas tote bags. We are still deciding which ones to make and will gather ideas from all ambassadors before ordering.”

This is exciting news for what is to come in the next few months! We hope you look forward to more updates like this in the future.

From Valentine's to President's Day, there were sparks in the air throughout this long weekend! Also signifying the end of Berkeley's fourth academic week, this is an equally exciting and nerve-racking time of year for both prospective and concurrent students.

Yet, with spring retreat behind them (pictures below) and a long weekend under their belt, the College of Environmental Design Ambassadors are recharged and ready to take on whatever comes their way!

The Admissions Ambassador team is a diverse group of CED students that works with professors, alumni, and advisors within both CED and community colleges to introduce prospective (as well as concurrent) students to CED-related fields of study, the resources and organizations available to them at Wurster and the wider campus, give tips about every year of student life at Berkeley, and provide insights or answer questions about enrollment, requirements, and popular classes.

Stick around this semester to read about our amazing ambassadors, cool functions and panels, and other outreach related events!
