Berkeley Disaster Team The Berkeley Disaster Team (BDT) helps prepare UC Berkeley for disasters and aids official campus disaster response. Sponsored by OEM and UCPD.

The Berkeley Disaster Team (BDT) is a student-led organization that helps prepare UC Berkeley for disasters and aids in non-medical campus disaster response. We are sponsored by the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). The BDT's Mission:
(1) PREPARE the campus for disasters through presentations and outreach
(2) TRAIN students to perform non-medical disaster response
(3) RESPOND to disasters at U

C Berkeley when mobilized by the OEM

The BDT augments campus response by:

* Staffing the campus Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
* Registering and supervising spontaneous (untrained) volunteers
* Managing information and controlling rumors
* Acting as liaisons between the EOC and other organizations
* Monitoring on-the-ground conditions and relaying updates
* Managing crowds and traffic
* Organizing mass care (shelter setup and operations)
* Supporting victims through psychological first-aid
* Distributing food and supplies
