Manatee awareness day helps increase knowledge about these beloved endangered animals lovingly known by many names including, "gentle giants", "floaty potatoes", and "chubby mermaids". If you have ever had the privilege to see Manatees in their natural habitat, these nicknames make perfect sense. Manatees are threatened by various human activities and this day encourages conservation efforts to protect their ecosystems. Thank you to all the students, faculty, and staff who participated in activities such as decorating manatee cookies and finding the "floaty potatoes" today!

We invite you to celebrate National Manatee Appreciation Day with us in the Biology Conference room. Come and learn about manatees, decorate a manatee cookie, and other fun activities. Did you know that two of our faculty members, Dr. Daniel Gonzalez-Socoloske and Dr. Amanda Moore, are manatee scientists?
