In preparation for our celebration of Choral Music at this year's Homecoming the Archives has been working on digitizing our concert recordings over the decades. Everything we have digitized will be available to listen to either in the archives area of the library or the Lobby of the Parker Fine Arts Center November 3-9.
This concert is a preview of what we will have available. It is a celebration of the 50 year history of the A Ca****la (later Chorale) singing group. The concert was held on November 14, 1987.
In 1938, Chester Crill began the A Ca****la Choir at Bethany-Peniel College. He continued leading the group until 1947, when Lester Dunn took over as the conductor. In 1967, Ray Moore led the group for one year before Harrell Lucky took over. In 1969, the choir's name was changed to Chorale. He was followed by David Miller who led the group from 1979-1988 when this concert took place, except for the 1983-1984 year where Dwight Uphaus took on the role. Aside from the two directors who led the group for 1 year, all of the directors returned for this concert to conduct a few songs. Additionally, Howard Oliver conducted a few songs during this concert.
