On March 11, the Department of Psychology & Counseling and Renew Counseling Center at Southern Nazarene University are excited to be hosting Dr. Ken Pargament, who will be facilitating a clinical workshop on Spiritually-Integrated Psychotherapy. Dr. Pargament is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He is an internationally-recognized psychological researcher and licensed psychologist, known for his work at the intersections of religion, spirituality, and health. He is the author of Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy and The Psychology of Religion and Coping, and coauthor of Working with Spiritual Struggles in Psychotherapy. The workshop will be oriented toward Psychologists, LPC/LMFT counselors, and other mental health professionals (or those in training) who are desiring professional training in spiritually integrated psychotherapy. This workshop has been approved for six CE hours (three ethics hours in the morning) by the Oklahoma State Board of Examiners of Psychologists (approval #21-18).
An application has been submitted for CE approval by the State Board of Behavioral Health (LPC & LMFT).

In March, The Department of Psychology & Counseling at SNU is excited to be hosting Dr. Ken Pargament for three events near and on our Bethany campus. Dr. Pargament is Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Bowling Green State University. He is an internationally-recognized psychological researcher and licensed psychologist, known for his work at the intersections of religion, spirituality, and health. He is the author of Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy and The Psychology of Religion and Coping, and coauthor of Working with Spiritual Struggles in Psychotherapy. The first event is a talk at Rose State College on the morning of March 10. This event is free, and community members of all types are encouraged to attend. This event will highlight the empirical work that Dr. Pargament and others have pursued on understanding spiritual struggles, with research participants and in therapeutic settings.

The second event is our Department of Psychology and Counseling Ladd Lecture, on the evening of March 10. Again, this event is free, and all community members are encouraged to attend. This lecture will explore the research that Dr. Pargament and others have pursued on the way people perceive relationships and other aspects of life through a sanctified, or sacred, lens.

The third event is a clinical workshop on March 11, oriented toward Psychologists, LPC/LMFT counselors, and other mental health professionals who are desiring professional training in spiritually integrated psychotherapy. There is a cost for this workshop. Please share this with those you know who might be interested.

You are invited to our annual SNU Department of Psychology & Counseling Ladd Lecture, featuring Dr. Ronn Johnson, who will present an interactive presentation entitled, “Bias in Clinical Forensic Ethical Practice & the Christian as Psychologist.” His presentation will feature clinical forensic case scenarios and discussion of ethical decision-making.

All SNU faculty staff, students, and alumni, as well as members of the community unaffiliated with SNU, are welcome to attend this free event.

Dr. Johnson is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Associate Dean of Diversity and Inclusion for the School of Medicine, Creighton University. He is concurrently Lead Clinical Psychologist for the Nebraska-Western Iowa Veteran Health Care System, Mental Health Clinic.

Dr. Johnson is an alumnus of Southern Nazarene University, and his research areas include antiterrorism, trauma, police psychology, and clinical forensic issues with diverse veterans.
