Residents from townships across the county filed into the Northampton County Board of Elections meeting on Tuesday to leave public comments regarding the implementation of additional voter drop boxes near Lehigh and Lafayette’s college campuses.

According to the United States Election Assistance Commission, drop boxes are physical ballot boxes that are secured using video surveillance, locks and chains, that enable voters to submit their ballot on or before election day.

The Bethlehem City Council convened on Sept. 1 to discuss the timeline of a comprehensive fire and EMS study as the city prepares for the 2027 budget season. Council members pressed city officials for a clearer study completion date with budget hearings scheduled for Nov. 10.

Bethlehem City Council members questioned Mayor J. Williams Reynolds and Business Administrator Eric R. Evan — both of whom were in attendance — about the timeline of the ongoing study, which is being conducted by the Center for Public Safety Management (CPSM).

The study examines the city’s fire and EMS operations, including staffing, response times, emergency calls and shift schedules. It also looks at how the fire department and EMS interact with police during emergency responses, though officials clarified that it’s not a study of police staffing.

Some council members expressed concern that the study has not been completed within the June or July timeframe they initially expected. https://wp.me/p5dwaC-zvX

Students in the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers can be found at movie nights with ramen in hand. Other times, they’re teaching others how to make rice balls, dumplings and popping boba.

From kimchi-making events to mock case studies, the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers (SASE) combines culture with professional development — providing students with a space to embrace their culture and grow.

Anin Mae Truchan, ‘28, serves as SASE’s external relations chair. She said that with the influx of first years coming to Lehigh, she wants the club to be a safe space.

“We want to make sure that they (the first years) know that there’s a support network here that can support them culturally, academically and even emotionally,” Truchan said.

Established in the early 2010s, SASE has a strong community within Lehigh and nationwide.

Bright pink tables and colorful chairs fill Gully Kitchen’s front patio, with a matching vibrant pink and yellow logo hung against the brick beside its entrance on East Third Street.

Inside, a sleek ordering counter with seating lets customers watch their bowls be prepared and listen to the music filling the room from the speakers above.

Gully Kitchen, a modern Indian street food restaurant, opened on July 25 at 203 E. Third St. The menu combines Indian flavors in dishes such as bowls, burritos, quesadillas, sandwiches and burgers.

Co-owner Tushar Lakhan Paul said he wanted to make Indian food more approachable while maintaining the flavors he and his three co-owners, Daksh Rana, Hiren Patel and Phavik Patel grew up loving.

“We tend to make Indian food too complicated when it doesn’t have to be,” Paul said. https://wp.me/p5dwaC-zvB

Classic rom-coms always taught me your twenties are the best time of your life. You’re the hottest you’ll ever be, have a high metabolism and a youthful glow not yet stolen by the atrocities of the world.

When I was younger and imagining my twenties, I pictured revamping my life: I’d become the version of myself I dreamed of and maybe meet my Matthew McConaughey while working for a magazine.

As I now watch those my age document their twenties, I realize maybe those dreams are more dangerous than I thought.

On Dec. 17, I will turn 21. So will Clavicular.

Clavicular, looking hot in your twenties, and the dangers of attractiveness.

Taylor Gym is more than a fitness center. It sits at the heart of campus as a social spot for students to better themselves and build community.

When they’re not breaking a sweat from climbing up and down Lehigh’s campus, some students choose to carve out time for physical activity in between classes and work.

Despite the prevalence of exercise on campus, Welch Fitness Center hasn’t been renovated since 1995 and the equipment is too old to keep up with student demand.

The mauve and purple walls of Cafe the Lodge are a hue that Charlotte Schwartz, ‘26, knows well.

She said that same shade filled her painting palette while working in Lehigh’s art studio over the past four years and now appears in nine of the 13 oil paintings hanging in Cafe the Lodge’s Cappuccino Room Gallery’s walls.

For her senior year capstone, Schwartz said she used a single color palette and a bird’s-eye perspective to depict nine physical spaces representing her strongest memories in an exhibition titled “INHABIT.” Installed April 3, the exhibit will remain on display through May 18.

In an artist’s statement displayed alongside the work, Schwartz explained the conceptual meaning behind the 13 paintings. She acknowledged the complexity of the series and said while the exhibit is visually accessible, it may be difficult to interpret.

Drenched in confident strokes of purple, buttery yellows, misty blues, earthy browns and greens, each canvas recreates a “room” from her life. When displayed together, she said the works form one cohesive painting.
