After months away from outdoor competition, junior cross country runner Kaitlyn Highduch returned to racing in familiar territory, and immediately found her way to the top of the leaderboard.

Highduch won the individual title at the Lafayette Invitational on Sept. 11, completing the 6K course in 21:33.9 to finish first among 32 competitors. The victory marked her second individual title at Lafayette’s course after she won last year’s Lehigh-Lafayette dual meet.

The Lafayette Invitational was Highduch’s first outdoor race since February, after a stress fracture forced her to miss last spring’s outdoor track season.

After months of rehabilitation, Highduch entered the race without knowing entirely what she would be capable of.

Dear Diary,

I envy the members of our society who walk freely without strings tied to politics. The ones who disengage from heated debates and walk away at any given sign of turmoil – knowing they will never be affected by the consequences.

I’m talking about the ones who cover their ears when they hear a different perspective and the ones who shrink away from the disasters happening in front of them.

It would be wonderful to turn your head away from the messy and cruel, to simply live without the weight everyone else carries on their shoulders.

As the lunch rush began, Lehigh students walked into the South Side’s newest cafe, grabbing food and drinks between classes as Olivia Dean’s soothing voice drifted through the bustling space.

The Brown and White’s editorial board members Alexandria Braxton and Ashlee Rothenberg stopped by Zen Cafe at Amicus after its opening on Oct. 19.

“This is so cute,” they overheard students say, admiring the space.

Zen Cafe, the latest venture into the Bethlehem coffee scene from Amicus Properties and Donerds Donuts, took over the former Saxby’s location, bringing a more modern look to a familiar student spot.

The Brown and White reviews Zen Café at Amicus, exploring its atmosphere, menu and whether it lives up to expectations.

Lehigh has placed the master’s in financial engineering program on hold for re-evaluation, with the fall 2026 cohort being the last group of students admitted to the program.

The decision ends the 4+1 program for most undergraduate students and follows years of declining enrollment, which allowed students to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years.

Some students also said they received limited and conflicting information about the program’s future.

The master’s in financial engineering, which combined courses in finance, mathematics and industrial engineering, was an interdisciplinary program through the College of Business, the College of Arts and Sciences and the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science.

Basketballs bounce in uneven rhythm, laughter spills down the hall from the art room and the hum of after-school chaos fills every corner of the Boys & Girls Club of Bethlehem. In the middle of it all stands CEO Winston Alozie, watching as a handful of kids run by, shouting, “Hey, Mr. Winston!”

He waves back, a steady and familiar presence. Around here, everyone knows Mr. Winston.

To the kids, he’s the person who remembers their stories and their siblings’ names. To his staff, he’s the leader who brings partnerships and opportunities that help the club thrive. To the community, he’s the man who once walked through the door as a shy eighth grader — and never really left.

Driven.

That’s the word women’s tennis head coach Sophia Geier used to describe this year’s team through the first half of the collegiate split season.

In the fall, the team primarily focuses on individual play. Geier said that although the team had a very successful season last spring, reaching the Patriot League semifinal before falling 4-0 to Boston University, it struggled with injuries, illnesses and lineup changes.

She said the players are entering this season more experienced than last year, showing high development, competition and consistency.

Lehigh suffered their second straight loss on Saturday as they fell to Villanova 24-18. This was the Wildcats’ 13th straight victory over the Mountain Hawks.

The Mountain Hawks record fell to 6-2 as Villanova, now 4-4, handed them their first Patriot League loss of the year.

After being shutout in the first half, the Mountain Hawks outscored the Wildcats 18-3 in the second half, but their comeback fell short after sophomore quarterback Derek Morgan was sacked at the Villanova two-yard line as time ran out.

Shot after shot came flying at Lehigh women’s soccer sophomore goalkeeper Chloe Zipprich, and one by one, she turned them away.

Zipprich, a sophomore business major from Evanston, Illinois, posted a career-high 11 saves in a 2-2 draw at Stony Brook on Sept. 6, more than doubling her previous season high of five, as the Mountain Hawks (0-6-1) battled the Seawolves.

“We knew that it was going to be a tough game,” Zipprich said.

Zipprich said the game’s opening minutes set the tone for her performance.

“I had some 1v1s pretty early, and once you save one or two of those, it kind of gets you in a momentum,” Zipprich said. “I was able to just carry my momentum throughout the whole game, and the vibes were high, and that came from my entire team too.”
