NHERI Lehigh RTMD Experimental Facility

NHERI Lehigh RTMD Experimental Facility An equipment site specializing in real-time multi-directional (RTMD) testing for multi-hazard simulation of large-scale structural systems.

The Lehigh University RTMD facility located in the ATLSS Research Center (IMBT Laboratory) allows for real-time multi-directional hybrid seismic testing, combined with real-time analytical simulations, to investigate the seismic behavior of large-scale structural components, structural sub assemblages, and super assemblages (systems).

Tests of a rolling-pendulum base-isolation system were performed as part of NSF award CAREER: Mitigation of Seismic Risk to Critical Building Contents via Optimum Nonlinear 3D Isolation (PI- Scott Harvey, University of Oklahoma, award #1943917). The work involved multi-directional real-time hybrid simulations (RTHS) of a rolling pendulum system for seismically isolating equipment in mission-critical buildings.

Entertaining our visitors from the Lehigh University Choices program which gives middle school girls the opportunity to explore many aspects of engineering

02/07/2023

As part of an ongoing collaboration, Lehigh University’s National Science Foundation (NSF) funded Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) Real-Time Multi-Directional (RTMD) experimental facility, NHERI Lehigh RTMD, will be part of a 30-minute live demonstration of advancements in real-time hybrid simulation (RTHS) to investigate and attenuate wind-induced vibrations of a 40-story building. The live demonstration is scheduled for tomorrow, February 8th beginning at 11:00 am. Registration is required

Our POV during these Shake Table tests

08/18/2021

We've been busy this summer creating our new real-time multi-directional shake table test bed! There's quite a bit of work left but this is exciting as it adds new 3DOF capabilities for researchers to use NHERI Lehigh for their experiments.
