Yolanda Wright is the Director of Focus One College whose mission is to provide students with the necessary educational and scholarship support to increase competitiveness in the college application process. 100% of her clients are admitted into college. She equips students with the necessary educational and psychosocial support to increase competitiveness in the college admission and scholarship
application process. Her approach is a holistic one that includes diligent work on improving student’s educational, psychosocial, and self-sufficiency outcomes. She started her career 20 years ago providing therapy and social work services in underserved communities. For the past decade, she has provided educational advocacy and services to special populations including underrepresented students. As the former Director of the First Star Bruin Guardian Scholars Academy at UCLA, she assisted foster youth with application, acceptance and entry into colleges. National statistics on foster youth report that only 50% graduate from high school and 3% graduate from college. Under Yolanda Wright's leadership, 90% of the foster youth students in her program graduated from high school and received college acceptances. Her program received the UCLA Community Program of the Year award in 2013. Yolanda Wright received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley and Master of Arts Degree in Psychology from the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology.
